Some Women Accompany Jesus
8 After this, Jesus[a] traveled from one city and village to another, preaching and spreading the good news about God’s kingdom. The Twelve were with him, 2 as well as some women who had been healed of evil spirits and illnesses: Mary, also called Magdalene,[b] from whom seven demons had gone out; 3 Joanna, the wife of Herod’s household manager Chuza; Susanna; and many others. These women[c] continued to support them[d] out of their personal resources.
The Parable about a Farmer(A)
4 Now while a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus[e] from every city, he said in a parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some seeds fell along the path, were trampled on, and birds from the sky ate them up. 6 Others fell on stony ground, and as soon as they came up, they dried up because they had no moisture. 7 Others fell among thorn bushes, and the thorn bushes grew with them and choked them. 8 But others fell on good soil, and when they came up, they produced 100 times as much as was planted.” As he said this, he called out, “Let the person who has ears to hear, listen!”
The Purpose of the Parables(B)
9 Then his disciples began to ask him what this parable meant. 10 So he said, “You have been given knowledge about the secrets of the kingdom of God. But to others they are given[f] in parables, so that
‘they might look but not see,
and they might listen but not understand.’”[g]
Jesus Explains the Parable about the Farmer(C)
11 “Now this is what the parable means. The seed is God’s word. 12 The ones on the path are the people who listen, but then the Devil comes and takes the word away from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 The ones on the stony ground are the people who joyfully welcome the word when they hear it. But since they don’t have any roots, they believe for a while, but in a time of testing they fall away. 14 The ones that fell among the thorn bushes are the people who listen, but as they go on their way they are choked by the worries, wealth, and pleasures of life, and their fruit doesn’t mature. 15 But the ones on the good soil are the people who hear the word but also hold on to it with good and honest hearts, producing a crop through endurance.”
A Light under a Bowl(D)
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it under a bowl or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a lamp stand so that those who come in will see the light. 17 There is nothing hidden that won’t be revealed, and there is nothing secret that won’t become known and come to light. 18 So pay attention to how you listen, because to the one who has something, more will be given. However, from the one who doesn’t have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
The True Family of Jesus(E)
19 His mother and his brothers came to him, but they couldn’t get near him because of the crowd. 20 Jesus[h] was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and want to see you.”
21 But he answered those people,[i] “My mother and my brothers are those who hear a message from God and heed it.”
Jesus Calms the Sea(F)
22 One day, Jesus[j] and his disciples got into a boat. He told them, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they started out.
23 Now as they were sailing, Jesus[k] fell asleep. A violent storm swept over the lake, and they were taking on water and were in great danger. 24 So his disciples[l] went to him, woke him up, and kept telling him, “Master! Master! We’re going to die!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves. They stopped, and there was calm.
25 Then he asked the disciples,[m] “Where’s your faith?”
Frightened and amazed, they asked one another, “Who is this man? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him!”
Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Man(G)
26 They landed in the region of the Gerasenes,[n] which is just across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus[o] stepped out on the shore, a man from the city met him. This man was controlled by[p] demons and had not worn clothes for a long time. He did not live in a house but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he screamed, fell down in front of him, and cried out in a loud voice, “What do you want from me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you not to torture me!” 29 because Jesus[q] was in the process of ordering the unclean spirit to come out of the man. On many occasions the unclean spirit[r] had seized the man,[s] and though he was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, he would break the chains and be driven by the demon into deserted places.
30 Jesus asked the man,[t] “What’s your name?”
He answered, “Legion,”[u] because many demons had gone into him. 31 Then the demons[v] began begging Jesus[w] not to order them to go into the bottomless pit.[x]
32 Now a large herd of pigs was grazing there on the hillside. So the demons[y] begged Jesus[z] to let them go into those pigs, and he consented to that. 33 Then the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down a steep slope into the lake and drowned.
34 Now when those who had been taking care of the pigs saw what had happened, they ran away and reported it in the city and in the countryside. 35 So the people[aa] went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind, they were frightened. 36 The people who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been healed. 37 Then all the people from the region surrounding the Gerasenes[ab] asked Jesus[ac] to leave them, because they were terrified. So he got into a boat and started back.
38 Now the man from whom the demons had gone out kept begging Jesus[ad] to let him go with him. But Jesus[ae] sent him away, saying, 39 “Go home and tell what God has done for you.” So the man[af] left and kept proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
Jesus Heals a Woman and Resurrects a Girl(H)
40 When Jesus came back, the crowd welcomed him, because everyone was expecting him. 41 Just then a synagogue leader by the name of Jairus arrived. He fell at Jesus’ feet and kept begging him to come to his home, 42 because his only living[ag] daughter, who was about twelve years old, was dying. While Jesus[ah] was on his way, the crowds continued to press in on him.
43 A woman was there[ai] who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years. Although she had spent all she had on doctors,[aj] no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind Jesus[ak] and touched the tassel of his garment, and her bleeding stopped at once.
45 Jesus asked, “Who touched me?”
While everyone was denying it, Peter and those who were with him[al] said, “Master, the crowds are surrounding you and pressing in on you.”
46 Still Jesus said, “Somebody touched me, because I know that power has gone out of me.”
47 When the woman saw that she couldn’t hide, she came forward trembling. Bowing down in front of him, she explained in the presence of all the people why she had touched Jesus[am] and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he told her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
49 While he was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue leader’s home[an] and told him,[ao] “Your daughter is dead. Stop bothering the teacher anymore.”
50 But when Jesus heard this, he told the synagogue leader,[ap] “Stop being afraid! Just believe, and she will get well.”
51 When he arrived at the man’s[aq] house, he allowed no one to go in with him except Peter, John, James, and the young girl’s father and mother. 52 Now everyone was crying and wailing for her. But Jesus[ar] said, “Stop crying! She’s not dead. She’s sleeping.” 53 They laughed and laughed at him, because they knew she was dead. 54 But he took her hand and called out, “Young lady, get up!” 55 So her spirit returned, and she got up at once. Then Jesus[as] directed that she be given something to eat. 56 Her parents were amazed, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

8 Y poco [a] después, Él comenzó a recorrer las ciudades y aldeas, proclamando y anunciando las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios(A); con Él iban los doce, 2 y también algunas mujeres(B) que habían sido sanadas de espíritus malos y de enfermedades: María, llamada Magdalena(C), de la que habían salido siete demonios, 3 y Juana, mujer de Chuza, mayordomo(D) de Herodes(E), y Susana, y muchas otras que de sus bienes personales contribuían al sostenimiento de ellos.
Parábola del sembrador
4 (F)Habiéndose congregado una gran multitud, y los que de varias ciudades acudían a Él, les habló por parábola: 5 El sembrador salió a sembrar su semilla; y al sembrarla, una parte cayó junto al camino, y fue pisoteada y las aves del cielo se la comieron. 6 Otra parte cayó sobre la roca, y tan pronto como creció, se secó, porque no tenía humedad. 7 Otra parte cayó en medio de los espinos; y los espinos, al crecer con ella, la ahogaron. 8 Y otra parte cayó en tierra buena, y creció y produjo una cosecha a ciento por uno. Y al hablar estas cosas, Jesús exclamaba: El que tiene oídos para oír, que oiga(G).
Explicación de la parábola
9 (H)Sus discípulos le preguntaban qué quería decir esta parábola, 10 y Él dijo: A vosotros se os ha concedido conocer los misterios del reino de Dios(I), pero a los demás les hablo en parábolas, para que viendo, no vean; y oyendo, no entiendan(J). 11 La parábola es esta: la semilla es la palabra de Dios(K). 12 Y aquellos a lo largo del camino son los que han oído, pero después viene el diablo y arrebata la palabra de sus corazones, para que no crean y se salven. 13 Y aquellos sobre la roca son los que, cuando oyen, reciben la palabra con gozo; pero[b] estos no tienen raíz profunda; creen[c] por algún tiempo, y en el momento de la tentación sucumben. 14 Y la semilla que cayó entre los espinos, estos son los que han oído, y al continuar su camino son ahogados por las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de la vida, y su fruto no madura. 15 Pero la semilla en la tierra buena, estos son los que han oído la palabra con corazón recto y bueno, y la retienen, y dan fruto con su perseverancia.
16 Nadie enciende una lámpara y la cubre con una vasija, o la pone debajo de una cama, sino que la pone sobre un candelero para que los que entren vean la luz(L). 17 Pues no hay nada oculto que no haya de ser manifiesto, ni secreto que no haya de ser conocido y salga a la luz(M). 18 Por tanto, tened cuidado de cómo oís; porque al que tiene, más le será dado; y al que no tiene, aun lo que cree que tiene[d] se le quitará(N).
La madre y los hermanos de Jesús
19 (O)Entonces su madre y sus hermanos llegaron a donde Él estaba, pero no podían acercarse a Él debido al gentío. 20 Y le avisaron: Tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera y quieren verte. 21 Pero respondiendo Él, les dijo: Mi madre y mis hermanos son estos que oyen la palabra de Dios y la hacen(P).
Jesús calma la tempestad
22 (Q)Y[e] uno de aquellos días, entró en una barca con sus discípulos, y les dijo: Pasemos al otro lado del lago(R). Y se hicieron a la mar. 23 Pero mientras ellos navegaban, Él se durmió; y una violenta tempestad[f] descendió sobre el lago(S), y comenzaron a anegarse y corrían peligro. 24 Y llegándose a Él, le despertaron, diciendo: ¡Maestro, Maestro(T), que perecemos! Y Él, levantándose, reprendió(U) al viento y a las olas embravecidas, y cesaron y sobrevino la calma. 25 Y Él les dijo: ¿Dónde está vuestra fe? Pero ellos estaban atemorizados y asombrados, diciéndose unos a otros: ¿Quién, pues, es este que aun a los vientos y al agua manda y le obedecen?
El endemoniado gadareno
26 (V)Navegaron hacia la tierra de los gadarenos[g] que está al lado opuesto de Galilea; 27 y cuando Él bajó a tierra, le salió al encuentro un hombre de la ciudad poseído por demonios, y que por mucho tiempo no se había puesto ropa alguna, ni vivía en una casa, sino en los sepulcros. 28 Al ver a Jesús, gritó y cayó delante de Él, y dijo en alta voz: ¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo[h], Jesús, Hijo del Dios(W) Altísimo? Te ruego que no me atormentes(X). 29 Porque Él mandaba al espíritu inmundo que saliera del hombre, pues muchas veces[i] se había apoderado de él, y[j] estaba atado con cadenas y grillos y bajo guardia; a pesar de todo rompía las ataduras y era impelido por el demonio a los desiertos. 30 Entonces Jesús le preguntó: ¿Cómo te llamas? Y él dijo: Legión(Y); porque muchos demonios habían entrado en él. 31 Y le rogaban que no les ordenara irse al abismo(Z). 32 Y había una piara de muchos cerdos paciendo allí en el monte; y los demonios le rogaron que les permitiera entrar en los cerdos[k]. Y Él les dio permiso. 33 Los demonios salieron del hombre y entraron en los cerdos; y la piara se precipitó por el despeñadero al lago(AA), y se ahogaron. 34 Y cuando los que los cuidaban vieron lo que había sucedido, huyeron y lo contaron en la ciudad y por los campos. 35 Salió entonces la gente a ver qué había sucedido; y vinieron a Jesús, y encontraron al hombre de quien habían salido los demonios, sentado a los pies de Jesús(AB), vestido y en su cabal juicio, y se llenaron de temor. 36 Y los que lo habían visto, les contaron cómo el que estaba endemoniado(AC) había sido sanado[l]. 37 Entonces toda la gente[m] de la región alrededor de los gadarenos le pidió a Jesús que se alejara de ellos, porque estaban poseídos de un gran temor. Y Él entrando a una barca, regresó. 38 (AD)Pero el hombre de quien habían salido los demonios le rogaba que le permitiera acompañarle[n]; mas Él lo despidió, diciendo: 39 Vuelve a tu casa, y cuenta cuán grandes cosas[o] Dios ha hecho por ti. Y él se fue, proclamando por toda la ciudad cuán grandes cosas[p] Jesús había hecho por él.
Jairo ruega por su hija
40 Cuando Jesús volvió, la multitud le recibió con gozo(AE), porque todos le habían estado esperando. 41 (AF)Y he aquí, llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era un oficial[q] de la sinagoga(AG); y cayendo a los pies de Jesús le rogaba que entrara a su casa; 42 porque tenía una hija única[r], como de doce años, que estaba al borde de la muerte. Pero mientras Él iba, la muchedumbre le apretaba.
Jesús sana a una mujer
43 Y una mujer que había tenido un flujo de sangre por doce años y que había gastado en médicos todo cuanto tenía[s] y no podía ser curada por nadie, 44 se acercó a Jesús por detrás y tocó el borde de su manto, y al instante cesó el flujo de su sangre. 45 Y Jesús dijo: ¿Quién es el que me ha tocado? Mientras todos lo negaban, Pedro dijo, y los que con él estaban[t]: Maestro(AH), las multitudes te aprietan y te oprimen. 46 Pero Jesús dijo: Alguien me tocó, porque me di cuenta que de mí había salido poder(AI). 47 Al ver la mujer que ella no había pasado inadvertida, se acercó temblando, y cayendo delante de Él, declaró en presencia de todo el pueblo la razón por la cual le había tocado, y cómo al instante había sido sanada. 48 Y Él le dijo: Hija, tu fe te ha sanado[u](AJ); vete en paz(AK).
Jesús resucita a la hija de Jairo
49 Mientras estaba todavía hablando, vino* alguien de la casa del oficial de la sinagoga(AL), diciendo: Tu hija ha muerto; no molestes más al Maestro. 50 Pero cuando Jesús lo oyó, le respondió: No temas(AM); cree solamente, y ella será sanada[v]. 51 Y cuando Él llegó a la casa, no permitió que nadie entrara con Él sino solo Pedro, Juan y Jacobo[w], y el padre y la madre de la muchacha. 52 Todos la lloraban y se lamentaban(AN); pero Él dijo: No lloréis, porque no ha muerto, sino que duerme(AO). 53 Y se burlaban de Él, sabiendo que ella había muerto. 54 Pero Él, tomándola de la mano, clamó, diciendo: ¡Niña, levántate! 55 Entonces le volvió su espíritu, y se levantó al instante, y Él mandó que le dieran de comer. 56 Y sus padres estaban asombrados; pero Él les encargó que no dijeran a nadie(AP) lo que había sucedido.
