⁵¹ When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James,^(A) and the child’s father and mother.

The Transfiguration^(A)

²⁸ About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James^(B) with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.^(C)

³³ He took Peter, James and John^(A) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.

Prayer^(A)

⁵ “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing^(B) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. ⁶ But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,^(C) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

⁴ Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”

⁵ She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. ⁶ When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”

But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.

¹⁹ “Give me your son,” Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed. ²⁰ Then he cried^(A) out to the Lord, “Lord my God, have you brought tragedy even on this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?” ²¹ Then he stretched^(B) himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the Lord, “Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!”

²² The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived. ²³ Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother^(C) and said, “Look, your son is alive!”

⁴⁰ Peter sent them all out of the room;^(A) then he got down on his knees^(B) and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.”^(C) She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.

³⁷ He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.^{(A) 38} When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,^(B) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. ³⁹ He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”^{(C) 40} But they laughed at him.
