³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If ^(A)this man were ^(B)a prophet, he ^(C)would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”

¹⁶ Fear seized them all, and ^(A)they glorified God, saying, ^(B)“A great prophet has arisen among us!” and ^(C)“God has visited his people!”

² And the Pharisees and the scribes ^(A)grumbled, saying, ^(B)“This man receives sinners and ^(C)eats with them.”

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, ^(A)murder, adultery,

²⁴ So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, ^(A)“Give glory to God. We know that ^(B)this man is a sinner.”

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, ^(A)“Have you also been deceived? ^48 (B)Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” ^50 (C)Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, ^51 (D)“Does our law judge a man without first ^(E)giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” ⁵² They replied, ^(F)“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^(G)no prophet arises from Galilee.”

Division Among the People

⁴⁰ When they heard these words, ^(A)some of the people said, “This really is ^(B)the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^(C)the Christ.” But some said, ^(D)“Is the Christ to come from Galilee?

¹² And there was much ^(A)muttering about him among the people. ^(B)While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, ^(C)he is leading the people astray.”
