³³ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,^(A) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’

¹⁵ for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink,^(A) and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit^(B) even before he is born.^(C)

⁶ John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist,^(A) and he ate locusts^(B) and wild honey.

⁸ “And do not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down to eat and drink.^{(A) 9} For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds^(B) of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride^(C) and bridegroom in this place.^(D)

¹⁰ “When you tell these people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the Lord decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?’^(E)

¹³ Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”^(A)

²⁰ Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed^(A) and raving mad.^(B) Why listen to him?”

⁵² At this they exclaimed, “Now we know that you are demon-possessed!^(A) Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death.
