³⁰ But the Pharisees and experts in religious law rejected God’s plan for them, for they had refused John’s baptism.

³⁴ “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.

³⁵ One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question:

6 As God’s partners,^[a] we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.

²¹ But regarding Israel, God said,

²⁷ for I didn’t shrink from declaring all that God wants you to know.

¹¹ Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,^[a] for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

²¹ I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.
