⁹     in all their distress.
It was no messenger or angel
    but his presence that saved them;
in his love and pity it was he who redeemed them;
    he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.^(A)

¹³ As a father has compassion for his children,
    so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.^(A)

¹⁵ But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.^(A)

³² Although he causes grief, he will have compassion
    according to the abundance of his steadfast love;^(A)
33 for he does not willingly afflict
    or grieve anyone.^(B)

²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son?
    Is he the child in whom I delight?
As often as I speak against him,
    I still remember him.
Therefore I am deeply moved for him;
    I will surely have mercy on him,
            says the Lord.^(A)

⁵ For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
    abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.^(A)
