Judging Others^(A)

³⁷ “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.^(B) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.^(C)

³² Be kind and compassionate to one another,^(A) forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.^(B)

⁹ Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters,^(A) or you will be judged. The Judge^(B) is standing at the door!^(C)

Judging Others^(A)

7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.^{(B) 2} For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.^(C)

³ “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ⁴ How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? ⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

²⁵ And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”^(A)

⁴ Love is patient,^(A) love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.^{(B) 5} It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,^(C) it is not easily angered,^(D) it keeps no record of wrongs.^{(E) 6} Love does not delight in evil^(F) but rejoices with the truth.^{(G) 7} It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.^(H)

¹⁰ You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister^[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt?^(A) For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.^{(B) 11} It is written:

¹² So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.^(E)

¹³ Therefore let us stop passing judgment^(F) on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.^{(G) 14} I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself.^(H) But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.^{(I) 15} If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love.^(J) Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died.^{(K) 16} Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil.^(L)

God’s Righteous Judgment

2 You, therefore, have no excuse,^(A) you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.^{(B) 2} Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.

³ The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt^(A) the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge^(B) the one who does, for God has accepted them. ⁴ Who are you to judge someone else’s servant?^(C) To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
