The Beatitudes

²⁰ And ^(A)he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, ^(B)and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor, for ^(C)yours is the kingdom of God.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, ^(A)has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be ^(B)rich in faith and heirs of ^(C)the kingdom, ^(D)which he has promised to those who love him?

The Beatitudes

“Blessed are you who are poor, for ^(C)yours is the kingdom of God.

^21 (D)“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.

^(E)“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

²² “Blessed are you when ^(F)people hate you and when they ^(G)exclude you and revile you and ^(H)spurn your name as evil, ^(I)on account of the Son of Man! ^23 (J)Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for ^(K)so their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

^24 (L)“But woe to you who are rich, ^(M)for you ^(N)have received your consolation.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ^(A)though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

^32 (A)“Fear not, little ^(B)flock, for ^(C)it is your Father's good pleasure to give you ^(D)the kingdom.

³⁴ Then ^(A)the King will say to ^(B)those on his right, ‘Come, you ^(C)who are blessed by my Father, ^(D)inherit ^(E)the kingdom ^(F)prepared for you ^(G)from the foundation of the world.

⁹ “‘I know your tribulation and ^(A)your poverty (^(B)but you are rich) and the slander^[a] of ^(C)those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

The Beatitudes

² And ^(A)he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:

^3 (B)“Blessed are ^(C)the poor in spirit, for ^(D)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

⁴ “Blessed are ^(E)those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

⁵ “Blessed are the ^(F)meek, for they ^(G)shall inherit the earth.

⁶ “Blessed are those who hunger and ^(H)thirst ^(I)for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

⁷ “Blessed are ^(J)the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

⁸ “Blessed are ^(K)the pure in heart, for ^(L)they shall see God.

⁹ “Blessed are ^(M)the peacemakers, for ^(N)they shall be called ^(O)sons^[a] of God.

^10 (P)“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for ^(Q)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

^11 (R)“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely ^(S)on my account. ^12 (T)Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for ^(U)so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

⁹ Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, ¹⁰ and ^(A)the rich in his humiliation, because ^(B)like a flower of the grass^[a] he will pass away.
