²⁰ Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:

⁵ Listen, my beloved brethren: ^(A)Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be ^(B)rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom ^(C)which He promised to those who love Him?

²⁰ Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:

Jesus Pronounces Woes

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, ^(A)that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become ^(B)rich.

³² “Do not fear, little flock, for ^(A)it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

³⁴ Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, ^(A)inherit the kingdom ^(B)prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

⁹ “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are ^(A)rich); and I know the blasphemy of ^(B)those who say they are Jews and are not, ^(C)but are a ^[a]synagogue of Satan.

² Then He opened His mouth and ^(A)taught them, saying:

^11 (L)Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of ^(M)evil against you falsely for My sake. ^12 (N)Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for ^(O)so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

The Perspective of Rich and Poor

⁹ Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, ¹⁰ but the rich in his humiliation, because ^(A)as a flower of the field he will pass away.
