Jesus Heals a Paralytic

17 On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and (A)teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And (B)the power of the Lord was with him to heal.[a] 18 (C)And behold, some men were bringing (D)on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, 19 but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on (E)the roof and let him down with his bed (F)through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. 20 And (G)when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, (H)your sins are forgiven you.” 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks (I)blasphemies? (J)Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 22 When Jesus (K)perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? 24 But that you may know that (L)the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” 25 And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, (M)glorifying God. 26 And amazement seized them all, and they (N)glorified God and were filled (O)with awe, saying, “We have seen extraordinary things today.”

The Son of Man Forgives and Heals

17 On one of those days while He was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law(A) were sitting there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea, and also from Jerusalem. And the Lord’s power to heal was in Him.(B) 18 Just then some men came,(C) carrying on a mat a man who was paralyzed. They tried to bring him in and set him down before Him. 19 Since they could not find a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on the mat through the roof tiles into the middle of the crowd before Jesus.

20 Seeing their faith He said, “Friend,[a] your sins are forgiven you.”

21 Then the scribes and the Pharisees(D) began to think: “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”(E)

22 But perceiving their thoughts, Jesus replied to them, “Why are you thinking this in your hearts?[b] 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But so you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He told the paralyzed man, “I tell you: Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”

25 Immediately he got up before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went home glorifying God. 26 Then everyone was astounded, and they were giving glory to God. And they were filled with awe(F) and said, “We have seen incredible things today!”
