The First Disciples
5 As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s word,(A) he was standing by Lake Gennesaret.[a](B) 2 He saw two boats at the edge of the lake; the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats,(C) which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the land. Then he sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat.
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”(D)
5 “Master,”(E) Simon replied, “we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I’ll let down the nets.”[b]
6 When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets[c] began to tear. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” (F) 9 For he and all those with him were amazed(G) at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s partners.
“Don’t be afraid,”(H) Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people.”(I) 11 Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed him.(J)
A Man Cleansed
12 While he was in one of the towns, a man was there who had leprosy[d] all over him.(K) He saw Jesus, fell facedown, and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Reaching out his hand, Jesus touched him,(L) saying, “I am willing; be made clean,” and immediately the leprosy left him. 14 Then he ordered him to tell no one:(M) “But go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses commanded for your cleansing as a testimony to them.”
15 But the news[e] about him spread even more, and large crowds would come together to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 Yet he often withdrew to deserted places and prayed.(N)
The Son of Man Forgives and Heals
17 On one of those days while he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law(O) were sitting there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea, and also from Jerusalem. And the Lord’s power to heal was in him.(P) 18 Just then some men came,(Q) carrying on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed. They tried to bring him in and set him down before him. 19 Since they could not find a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on the stretcher through the roof tiles into the middle of the crowd before Jesus.
20 Seeing their faith he said, “Friend,[f] your sins are forgiven.”
21 Then the scribes and the Pharisees(R) began to think to themselves, “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (S)
22 But perceiving their thoughts, Jesus replied to them, “Why are you thinking this in your hearts?[g] 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he told the paralyzed man, “I tell you: Get up, take your stretcher, and go home.”
25 Immediately he got up before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went home glorifying God.(T) 26 Then everyone was astounded, and they were giving glory to God. And they were filled with awe(U) and said, “We have seen incredible things today.”
The Call of Levi
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax office,(V) and he said to him, “Follow me.” 28 So, leaving everything behind, he got up and began to follow him.
29 Then Levi hosted a grand banquet for him at his house. Now there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining at the table with them.(W) 30 But the Pharisees and their scribes(X) were complaining to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
31 Jesus replied to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a doctor, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
A Question about Fasting
33 Then they said to him, “John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink.”
34 Jesus said to them, “You can’t make the wedding guests fast while the groom is with them, can you? 35 But the time[h] will come(Y) when the groom will be taken away from them—then they will fast in those days.”
36 He also told them a parable: “No one tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise, not only will he tear the new, but also the piece from the new garment will not match the old. 37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, it will spill, and the skins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine is put into fresh wineskins.[i] 39 And no one, after drinking old wine, wants new, because he says, ‘The old is better.’”[j]

Затем Он сел и стал учить народ из лодки. 4 Когда Иса закончил говорить, Он сказал Шимону:
– Отплыви на глубокое место и закинь сети для лова.
5 Шимон ответил:
– Наставник, мы трудились всю ночь и ничего не поймали, но если Ты так говоришь, то я закину сети.
6 И когда они сделали это, то поймали столько рыбы, что сети начали рваться. 7 Они знаками стали звать на помощь товарищей из другой лодки. Те подплыли, и вместе они наполнили две лодки так, что лодки стали погружаться в воду. 8 Когда Шимон Петир это увидел, он пал к ногам Исы и сказал:
– Оставь меня, Повелитель, ведь я человек грешный!
9 Он сказал так потому, что его и всех, кто вместе с ним ловил рыбу, объял ужас при виде столь обильного улова. 10 Были поражены и товарищи Шимона: Якуб и Иохан, сыновья Завдая. Иса же сказал Шимону:
– Не бойся, отныне ты будешь ловить людей.
11 И вытащив лодки на берег, они оставили всё и пошли за Ним.
Исцеление прокажённого(B)
12 Однажды, когда Иса находился в одном из городов, Ему встретился человек, покрытый проказой. Когда он увидел Ису, то пал на лицо своё и стал умолять Его:
– Господин, если Ты захочешь, Ты можешь меня очистить.
13 Иса протянул руку и прикоснулся к нему, сказав:
– Хочу, очистись!
В тот же миг проказа сошла с этого человека, 14 и Иса предупредил его никому об этом не рассказывать, но повелел:
– Пойди, покажись священнослужителю и принеси жертву за очищение, как это повелел Муса.[b] Так люди удостоверятся, что ты исцелён.[c]
15 Однако слух об Исе распространялся всё шире, и люди толпами шли к Нему, чтобы послушать Его и исцелиться от болезней. 16 Иса же часто уходил в безлюдные места и молился.
Исцеление парализованного и прощение его грехов(C)
17 Однажды, когда Иса учил, рядом сидели блюстители Закона[d] и учители Таурата, которые собрались из всех селений Галилеи, Иудеи и из Иерусалима. С Исой была сила Вечного, чтобы исцелять больных. 18 И тут пришли несколько человек, неся на постели парализованного, и пытались внести его в дом, чтобы положить перед Исой. 19 Но из-за толпы они не смогли этого сделать, и тогда они поднялись на крышу и, разобрав черепицу, опустили парализованного на постели в середину толпы, прямо перед Исой. 20 Когда Иса увидел их веру, Он сказал больному:
– Друг, прощаются тебе твои грехи!
21 Блюстители Закона и учители Таурата подумали про себя:
– За кого Он Себя принимает, что так кощунствует? Кто, кроме Аллаха, может прощать грехи?
22 Узнав, о чём они думают, Иса ответил им:
– Что у вас за мысли в сердце? 23 Вы, наверное, думаете, что сказать: «Прощаются тебе твои грехи» намного легче, чем сказать: «Встань и ходи». 24 Но чтобы вы знали, что Ниспосланный как Человек[e] имеет власть на земле прощать грехи… – И тут Иса обратился к парализованному человеку:
– Говорю тебе, встань, возьми свою постель и иди домой.
25 Тот сразу же у всех на глазах встал, взял то, на чём лежал, и пошёл домой, прославляя Аллаха. 26 Всех охватило изумление, и они прославляли Аллаха. Объятые страхом, они говорили:
– Невероятные вещи видели мы сегодня.
Обед в доме у Леви(D)
27 Выйдя из этого дома, Иса увидел сборщика налогов по имени Леви, сидевшего на месте сбора таможенных пошлин.
– Следуй за Мной, – сказал ему Иса. 28 Тот встал, оставил всё и пошёл за Ним. 29 Потом Леви устроил у себя дома большой пир для Исы. На пир собралось много сборщиков налогов и другого народа. Они возлежали вместе с Исой. 30 Блюстители же Закона и те учители Таурата, которые принадлежали к их партии, возмущённо спрашивали учеников Исы:
– Почему вы едите и пьёте со сборщиками налогов и с грешниками?
31 Иса ответил им:
– Не здоровым нужен врач, а больным. 32 Я пришёл призвать к покаянию не праведников, а грешников.
О посте(E)
33 Тогда они сказали Исе:
– Ученики Яхии и блюстителей Закона часто постятся и молятся, а Твои ученики – едят и пьют.
34 Иса ответил им так:
– Разве можно заставить гостей на свадьбе поститься, пока с ними жених?[f] 35 Но наступит время, когда жених будет взят от них, вот тогда, в те дни, они и будут поститься.
36 Он также рассказал им притчу:
– Никто не пришивает заплату к старому плащу, оторвав для этого кусок от нового. Если он это сделает, то он и новый плащ испортит, и к старому заплата не подойдёт. 37 И никто не наливает молодое вино в старые бурдюки, иначе молодое вино прорвёт их – оно вытечет, а бурдюки пропадут. 38 Нет, молодое вино льют в новые бурдюки. 39 И никто, пьющий старое вино, не захочет молодого, потому что скажет: «Старое лучше».

Jesus Calls His First Disciples(A)
5 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a] the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God.(B) 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.(C)
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”(D)
5 Simon answered, “Master,(E) we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.(F) But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.(G) 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”(H) 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid;(I) from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.(J)
Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy(K)
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[b](L) When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone,(M) but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded(N) for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more,(O) so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.(P)
Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man(Q)
17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law(R) were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.(S) 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”(T)
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”(U)
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man(V) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God.(W) They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners(X)
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,”(Y) Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.(Z)
29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors(AA) and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect(AB) complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”(AC)
31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”(AD)
Jesus Questioned About Fasting(AE)
33 They said to him, “John’s disciples(AF) often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”
34 Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom(AG) fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them;(AH) in those days they will fast.”
36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’”
