Jesus Calls His First Disciples^(A)

¹⁸ As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee,^(B) he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter^(C) and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

13 That same day Jesus went out of the house^(D) and sat by the lake. ² Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat^(E) and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.

² At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.^(A)

⁴¹ The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).^{(A) 42} And he brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called^(B) Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter^[a]).^(C)
