⁹ Then the devil^[a] led him to Jerusalem and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

⁵ Then the devil took him to the holy city and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple,^{(A) 6} saying to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

³ The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread.”

⁴ and was declared to be Son of God with power according to the spirit^[a] of holiness by resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,^(A)

²⁹ Suddenly they shouted, “What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”^(A)

⁶ The Lord said to the accuser,^[a] “Very well, he is in your power; only spare his life.”^(A)

⁴ The vestibule in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits long, across the width of the house,^[a] and its height was one hundred twenty cubits. He overlaid it on the inside with pure gold.
