Jesus Heals a Man with an Unclean Spirit

^21 (A)And they went into Capernaum, and immediately ^(B)on the Sabbath ^(C)he entered the synagogue and was teaching. ²² And ^(D)they were astonished at his teaching, ^(E)for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. ²³ And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, ^24 (F)“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? ^(G)I know who you are—^(H)the Holy One of God.” ²⁵ But Jesus ^(I)rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” ²⁶ And the unclean spirit, ^(J)convulsing him and ^(K)crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. ²⁷ And they were all ^(L)amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? ^(M)A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” ²⁸ And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.

¹³ And leaving ^(A)Nazareth he went and lived in ^(B)Capernaum by ^(C)the sea, in the territory of ^(D)Zebulun and Naphtali,

17 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to ^(A)Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. ² And Paul went in, ^(B)as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them ^(C)from the Scriptures, ^3 (D)explaining and proving that it was necessary for ^(E)the Christ to suffer and ^(F)to rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.”

^19 (A)But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, ^(B)they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. ²⁰ But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. ²¹ When they had preached the gospel to that city and had ^(C)made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch,

⁶ they learned of it and ^(A)fled to ^(B)Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding country, ⁷ and there they continued to preach the gospel.

^50 (A)But the Jews incited the devout ^(B)women of high standing and the leading men of the city, ^(C)stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and ^(D)drove them out of their district. ⁵¹ But they ^(E)shook off the dust from their feet against them and went to Iconium. ⁵² And the disciples were filled ^(F)with joy and ^(G)with the Holy Spirit.

14 Now at Iconium ^(H)they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. ^2 (I)But the ^(J)unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against ^(K)the brothers.^[a]

²³ And he said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ^(A)‘“Physician, heal yourself.” What we have heard you did ^(B)at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.’”

²³ When they ^(A)persecute you in one town, ^(B)flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel ^(C)before the Son of Man comes.
