²⁹ And they rose up and ^(A)drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff.

⁵⁹ So ^(A)they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

¹² So Jesus also ^(A)suffered ^(B)outside the gate in order to sanctify the people ^(C)through his own blood.

²⁸ crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who ^(A)is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and ^(B)the law and ^(C)this place. Moreover, he even brought Greeks into the temple and ^(D)has defiled ^(E)this holy place.” ²⁹ For they had previously seen ^(F)Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. ³⁰ Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and ^(G)dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut. ^31 (H)And as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the tribune of ^(I)the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion. ^32 (J)He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

²³ And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. ²⁴ Having received this order, he put them into the inner ^(A)prison and fastened their feet in ^(B)the stocks.

⁵⁷ But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together^[a] at him. ⁵⁸ Then ^(A)they cast him out of the city and ^(B)stoned him. And ^(C)the witnesses laid down their garments ^(D)at the feet of a young man named Saul.

^24 (A)If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, ^(B)they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have ^(C)seen and hated both me and my Father. ²⁵ But ^(D)the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ^(E)‘They hated me without a cause.’

⁴⁰ but now ^(A)you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth ^(B)that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.

³⁷ I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet ^(A)you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.
