John Preaches to the People^(A)

⁷ Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, ^(B)“Brood^[a] of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³³ Serpents, ^(A)brood^[a] of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?

¹⁰ and ^(A)to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us ^(B)from the wrath to come.

^34 (A)Brood^[a] of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? ^(B)For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, ^(A)“Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from ^(B)the wrath to come? ⁸ Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, ⁹ and do not think to say to yourselves, ^(C)‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ¹⁰ And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. ^(D)Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

^8 (A)He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, ^(B)that He might destroy the works of the devil.
