³⁸ son of Enos, son of Seth, son of Adam, son of God.^(A)

²⁵ Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth,^[a] for she said, “God has appointed for me another child instead of Abel, because Cain killed him.”^{(A) 26} To Seth also a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to invoke the name of the Lord.^(B)

Adam’s Descendants to Noah and His Sons

5 This is the list of the descendants of Adam. When God created humans,^[b] he made them^[c] in the likeness of God.^{(C) 2} Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and called them humans^[d] when they were created.^(D)

³ When Adam had lived one hundred thirty years, he became the father of a son in his likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.^(E)

⁴⁷ The first man was from the earth, made of dust; the second man is^[a] from heaven.^(A)

⁴⁵ Thus it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.^(A)

²⁶ From one ancestor^[a] he made all peoples to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live,^{(A) 27} so that they would search for God^[b] and perhaps fumble about for him and find him—though indeed he is not far from each one of us.^{(B) 28} For ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said,

²⁹ “Since we are God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals.^(D)

⁷ then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground^[a] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.^(A)

²⁶ Then God said, “Let us make humans^[a] in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over the cattle and over all the wild animals of the earth^[b] and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”^(A)
