¹⁸ So ^(A)with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people. ¹⁹ But ^(B)Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him for Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done, ²⁰ added this to them all, that ^(C)he locked up John in prison.

²¹ Now when all the people were baptized, and when ^(D)Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, ^(E)the heavens were opened, ²² and ^(F)the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and ^(G)a voice came from heaven, ^(H)“You are my beloved Son;^[a] with you I am well pleased.”^[b]

4 ^(T)And Jesus, ^(U)full of the Holy Spirit, ^(V)returned from the Jordan and was led ^(W)by the Spirit in the wilderness ² for ^(X)forty days, ^(Y)being tempted by the devil. ^(Z)And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, ^(AA)he was hungry.
