John the Baptist Prepares the Way^(A)

3 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, ^(B)Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

Christ Born of Mary^(A)

2 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

² And when they had bound Him, they led Him away and ^(A)delivered Him to ^[a]Pontius Pilate the governor.

³⁰ When he had said these things, the king stood up, as well as the governor and Bernice and those who sat with them;

²⁷ But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, ^(A)wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.

²⁷ “For ^(A)truly against ^(B)Your holy Servant Jesus, ^(C)whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together

²⁴ So ^(A)Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested.

Jesus Faces Herod

⁶ When Pilate heard ^[a]of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. ⁷ And as soon as he knew that He belonged to ^(A)Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. ⁸ Now when Herod saw Jesus, ^(B)he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because ^(C)he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. ⁹ Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him ^(D)nothing. ¹⁰ And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. ^11 (E)Then Herod, with his ^[b]men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

Herod Seeks to See Jesus^(A)
