The Resurrection
24 (A)But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of (B)the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, (C)two men suddenly (D)stood near them in gleaming clothing; 5 and as [a]the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why are you seeking the living One among the dead? 6 He is not here, but He (E)has [b]risen. Remember how He spoke to you (F)while He was still in Galilee, 7 saying that (G)the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from the dead.” 8 And (H)they remembered His words, 9 and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 Now these women were (I)Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to (J)the apostles. 11 But these words appeared [c]to them as nonsense, and they (K)would not believe [d]the women. 12 Nevertheless, Peter got up and (L)ran to the tomb; and when he stooped and looked in, he *saw the linen wrappings [e]only; and he went away (M)to his [f]home, marveling at what had happened.
The Road to Emmaus
13 And behold, on that very day (N)two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, which was [g]sixty stadia from Jerusalem. 14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. 15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. 16 But (O)their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. 17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they came to a stop, looking sad. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You possibly the only one living near Jerusalem [h]who does not know about the things that happened here in these days?” 19 And He said to them, “What sort of things?” And they said to Him, “Those about (P)Jesus the Nazarene, who proved to be a (Q)prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our (R)rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we [i]were hoping that it was He who was going to (S)redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 But also some women among us left us bewildered. (T)When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. 24 And so some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.” 25 And then He said to them, “[j]You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that (U)the prophets have spoken! 26 (V)Was it not necessary for the [k]Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?” 27 Then beginning [l]with (W)Moses and [m]with all the (X)Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.
28 And they approached the village where they were going, and (Y)He gave the impression that He was going farther. 29 And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day [n]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30 And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and (Z)blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. 31 And then their (AA)eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from [o]their sight. 32 They said to one another, “[p]Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He (AB)was [q]explaining the Scriptures to us?” 33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and (AC)found the eleven gathered together and (AD)those who were with them, 34 saying, “(AE)The Lord has really risen and (AF)has appeared to Simon!” 35 They began to relate [r]their experiences on the road, and how (AG)He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread.

36 Now while they were telling these things, (AH)Jesus Himself suddenly stood in their midst and *said to them, “Peace be to you.” 37 But they were startled and frightened, and thought that they were looking at (AI)a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why are doubts arising in your [s]hearts? 39 (AJ)See My hands and My feet, that [t]it is I Myself; (AK)touch Me and see, because a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you plainly see that I have.” 40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 While they still [u](AL)could not believe it because of their joy and astonishment, He said to them, “(AM)Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They served Him a piece of broiled fish; 43 and He took it and (AN)ate it in front of them.
44 Now He said to them, “(AO)These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things that are written about Me in the (AP)Law of Moses and the Prophets and (AQ)the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He (AR)opened their [v]minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, “(AS)So it is written, that the [w]Christ would suffer and (AT)rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and that (AU)repentance [x]for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed [y]in His name to (AV)all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are (AW)witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, (AX)I am sending the promise of My Father upon you; but (AY)you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
The Ascension
50 And He led them out as far as (AZ)Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple [z]praising God.

24 Muy temprano el domingo en la mañana, las mujeres fueron al sepulcro. Llevaban las especias aromáticas que habían preparado. 2 Encontraron que había sido quitada la piedra que tapaba la entrada del sepulcro. 3 Entraron, pero no encontraron el cuerpo del Señor Jesús. 4 Las mujeres no entendían lo que estaba pasando, cuando de repente dos hombres vestidos con ropa muy brillante se aparecieron de pie, junto a ellas. 5 Las mujeres tenían mucho miedo y se postraron rostro en tierra. Los hombres les dijeron:
—¿Por qué están buscando entre los muertos al que está vivo? 6 Jesús no está aquí. Ha resucitado. ¿No recuerdan lo que les dijo en Galilea? 7 Les dijo que el Hijo del hombre debía ser entregado en manos de pecadores, ser crucificado y resucitar al tercer día.
8 Entonces las mujeres recordaron las palabras de Jesús. 9 Se fueron del sepulcro y les contaron todo a los once apóstoles y a los otros seguidores. 10 Estas mujeres eran María Magdalena, Juana, María la mamá de Santiago, y otras más. Cuando les contaron a los apóstoles lo que había pasado, 11 no les creyeron porque les pareció que era un disparate. 12 Sin embargo, Pedro se levantó y corrió hacia el sepulcro. Se agachó para ver adentro, pero sólo vio la tela con la que habían envuelto el cuerpo. Luego se fue preguntándose qué había pasado.[a]
En el camino hacia Emaús

13 Ese mismo día, dos de los seguidores de Jesús iban hacia un pueblo llamado Emaús que queda a unos once kilómetros[b] de Jerusalén. 14 Iban hablando de todo lo que había pasado. 15 Mientras discutían, Jesús mismo se acercó y empezó a caminar con ellos, 16 pero no les fue permitido reconocer a Jesús. 17 Entonces Jesús les dijo:
—¿De qué tanto hablan por el camino?
Los hombres se detuvieron muy tristes. 18 El que se llamaba Cleofás respondió:
—¿Eres tú el único peregrino en Jerusalén que no se ha enterado de lo que ha pasado en ella en estos días?
19 Jesús les dijo:
—¿Qué quieren decir?
Ellos le respondieron:
—Nos referimos a todo lo que sucedió con Jesús de Nazaret, quien por sus hechos y palabras demostró ante Dios y la gente que era un profeta poderoso. 20 Y cómo los jefes de los sacerdotes y nuestros líderes lo entregaron para que lo sentenciaran a muerte y lo crucificaran. 21 Teníamos la esperanza de que él fuera el que iba a liberar a Israel. Sin embargo, además de todo eso, este ya es el tercer día desde que sucedió todo esto, 22 y algunas mujeres de nuestro grupo nos contaron algo asombroso. Esta mañana muy temprano fueron al sepulcro, 23 pero no encontraron el cuerpo. Vinieron y nos dijeron que habían visto ángeles en una visión. Los ángeles les dijeron que Jesús estaba vivo. 24 Entonces algunos de los que estaban con nosotros fueron a ver el sepulcro y lo encontraron tal y como las mujeres habían dicho, pero no vieron a Jesús.
25 Entonces Jesús les dijo:
—¡No sean tan tontos! ¿Por qué les cuesta tanto creer todo lo que dijeron los profetas? 26 ¿Acaso no dijeron que el Mesías tendría que sufrir todo eso antes de dar comienzo a su período de gloria?
27 Entonces Jesús les explicó todo lo que había sido escrito sobre él en las Escrituras, empezando con los libros de Moisés y todos los profetas. 28 Al acercarse al pueblo al que iban, Jesús hizo como que iba a seguir de largo. 29 Pero ellos le rogaron con insistencia:
—Quédate con nosotros, porque ya está atardeciendo. Ya casi es de noche.
Entonces Jesús entró y se quedó con ellos. 30 Cuando estaba a la mesa con ellos, tomó el pan, dio gracias a Dios, lo partió y se lo dio a ellos. 31 En ese preciso instante les fue permitido reconocerlo, pero él desapareció. 32 Los dos hombres se dijeron entre sí:
—¡Con razón sentíamos que el corazón nos ardía de emoción cuando nos venía hablando y explicando las Escrituras en el camino!
33 Entonces se pusieron de pie de inmediato y regresaron a Jerusalén. Allí encontraron reunidos a los once apóstoles y a los que estaban con ellos, 34 y dijeron:
—¡En verdad el Señor ha resucitado! Se le ha aparecido a Simón.
35 Entonces los dos hombres les contaron a los demás lo que había pasado en el camino y cómo habían reconocido a Jesús cuando estaba partiendo el pan.
Jesús se aparece a sus seguidores
(Mt 28:16-20; Mr 16:14-18; Jn 20:19-23; Hch 1:6-8)
36 Mientras los seguidores estaban hablando de todo esto, Jesús se les apareció, y les dijo:
—Que la paz esté con ustedes.
37 Entonces ellos se asustaron y aterrorizaron pensando que estaban viendo a un fantasma, 38 pero Jesús les dijo:
—¿Por qué están tan asustados? ¿Por qué dudan de lo que ven? 39 Miren mis pies y mis manos. ¡Soy yo! Tóquenme y vean que mi cuerpo está con vida. Los fantasmas no tienen cuerpo.
40 Diciendo esto, les mostró los huecos de sus manos y pies. 41 Los seguidores seguían tan asombrados y felices que no podían creerlo. Jesús les preguntó:
—¿Tienen comida aquí?
42 Le dieron un pedazo de pescado asado. 43 Jesús tomó el pescado y lo comió delante de ellos. 44 Luego les dijo:
—Esto es lo que les había anunciado cuando todavía estaba con ustedes: que todo lo que está escrito sobre mí en la ley de Moisés, los libros de los profetas y en los Salmos tiene que cumplirse.
45 Entonces les abrió el entendimiento para que comprendieran las Escrituras,[c] 46 y les dijo:
—Está escrito que el Mesías tenía que morir y resucitar al tercer día, 47 y que en su nombre se anunciará a todas las naciones que cambien y se vuelvan a Dios para el perdón de los pecados. Empiecen desde Jerusalén 48 pues ustedes son testigos de todo esto. 49 Ahora les enviaré lo que mi Padre les ha prometido, pero quédense en Jerusalén hasta que reciban poder del cielo.
Jesús vuelve a los cielos

50 Después Jesús llevó a sus seguidores fuera de Jerusalén, casi hasta Betania y, levantando las manos, los bendijo. 51 Mientras los estaba bendiciendo, se separó de ellos y fue llevado al cielo. 52 Entonces los seguidores lo adoraron y luego regresaron muy felices a Jerusalén; 53 y estaban en el área del templo alabando continuamente a Dios.

24 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8 And they remembered his words,
9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
