⁵¹ While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.^[a](A)

⁹ When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.^(A)

¹⁷ Jesus said to her, “Do not touch me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”^(A)

The Ascension of Jesus

¹⁹ So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

¹¹ As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven.^(A)

Jesus the Great High Priest

¹⁴ Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.^(A)

³ He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains^[a] all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for^[b] sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,^(A)

⁸ Therefore it is said,

⁹ (When it says, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended^[b] into the lower parts of the earth?^{[c] 10} He who descended is the same one who ascended far above all the heavens, so that he might fill all things.)
