⁵ The women^[a] were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men^[b] said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen.^[c]

⁵ As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.^{(A) 6} But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.^(B)

¹⁸ and the Living One. I was dead, and see, I am alive forever and ever, and I have the keys of Death and of Hades.^(A)

³ His appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow. ⁴ For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. ⁵ But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.^(A)

The Message to Smyrna

⁸ “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of the First and the Last, who was dead and came to life:^(A)

¹² When Zechariah saw him, he was terrified, and fear overwhelmed him. ¹³ But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John.^(A)

¹⁶ Then one in human form touched my lips, and I opened my mouth to speak and said to the one who stood before me, “My lord, because of the vision such pains have come upon me that I retain no strength.^(A)

⁸ In the one case, tithes are received by those who are mortal; in the other, by one of whom it is testified that he lives.^(A)

³ One afternoon at about three o’clock he had a vision in which he clearly saw an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius.”^{(A) 4} He stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” He answered, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.^(B)

¹⁹ He said, “Do not fear, greatly beloved; you are safe. Be strong and courageous!” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”^(A)
