Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

[[⁹ Now after he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. ¹⁰ She went out and told those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping.

⁷ Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead,^[a] and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.”^{(A) 8} So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples.

¹⁸ Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and she told them that he had said these things to her.^(A)

The Resurrection of Jesus

20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.^{(A) 2} So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”^(B)

24 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared.^{(A) 2} They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, ³ but when they went in they did not find the body.^{[a] 4} While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them.^{(B) 5} The women^[b] were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men^[c] said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen.^{[d] 6} Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,^{(C) 7} that the Son of Man must be handed over to the hands of sinners and be crucified and on the third day rise again.” ⁸ Then they remembered his words,^{(D) 9} and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest.^{(E) 10} Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles.^{(F) 11} But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.^(G)
