Luke 24:19-24

New International Version

¹⁹“What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,”^(A) they replied. “He was a prophet,^(B) powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. ²⁰The chief priests and our rulers^(C) handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; ²¹but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.^(D) And what is more, it is the third day^(E) since all this took place. ²²In addition, some of our women amazed us.^(F) They went to the tomb early this morning ²³but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. ²⁴Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”^(G)

Jeremiah 8:18-22

¹⁸You who are my Comforter^[a] in sorrow,
    my heart is faint^(A) within me.
¹⁹Listen to the cry of my people
    from a land far away:^(B)
“Is the Lord not in Zion?
    Is her King^(C) no longer there?”

“Why have they aroused^(D) my anger with their images,
with their worthless^(E) foreign idols?”^(F)

²⁰“The harvest is past,
the summer has ended,
and we are not saved.”

²¹Since my people are crushed,^(G) I am crushed;
    I mourn,^(H) and horror grips me.
²²Is there no balm in Gilead?^(I)
    Is there no physician^(J) there?
Why then is there no healing^(K)
    for the wound of my people?
