Pilate Questions Jesus(A)
23 Then the entire assembly stood up and took him to Pilate.
2 They began to accuse Yeshua by saying, “We found that he stirs up trouble among our people: He keeps them from paying taxes to the emperor, and he says that he is Christ, a king.”
3 Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“Yes, I am,” Yeshua answered.
4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I can’t find this man guilty of any crime.”
Pilate Sends Jesus to Herod
5 The priests and the crowd became more forceful. They said, “He stirs up the people throughout Judea with his teachings. He started in Galilee and has come here.”
6 When Pilate heard that, he asked if the man was from Galilee. 7 When Pilate found out that he was, he sent Yeshua to Herod. Herod ruled Galilee and was in Jerusalem at that time.
8 Herod was very pleased to see Yeshua. For a long time he had wanted to see him. He had heard about Yeshua and hoped to see him perform some kind of miracle. 9 Herod asked Yeshua many questions, but Yeshua wouldn’t answer him. 10 Meanwhile, the chief priests and the experts in Moses’ Teachings stood there and shouted their accusations against Yeshua.
11 Herod and his soldiers treated Yeshua with contempt and made fun of him. They put a colorful robe on him and sent him back to Pilate. 12 So Herod and Pilate became friends that day. They had been enemies before this.
13 Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people. 14 He told them, “You brought me this man as someone who turns the people against the government. I’ve questioned him in front of you and haven’t found this man guilty of the crimes of which you accuse him. 15 Neither could Herod. So he sent this man back to us. This man hasn’t done anything to deserve the death penalty. 16 So I’m going to have him whipped and set free.”[a]
The Crowd Rejects Jesus(B)
18 The whole crowd then shouted, “Take him away! Free Barabbas for us.” 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for his involvement in a riot that had taken place in the city and for murder.)
20 But because Pilate wanted to free Yeshua, he spoke to the people again.
21 They began yelling, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22 A third time Pilate spoke to them. He asked, “Why? What has he done wrong? I haven’t found this man deserving of the death penalty. So I’m going to have him whipped and set free.”
23 But the crowd pressured Pilate. They shouted that Yeshua had to be crucified, and they finally won. 24 Pilate decided to give in to their demand. 25 He freed Barabbas, who had been put in prison for rioting and murdering, because that’s what they wanted. But he let them do what they wanted to Yeshua.
Jesus Is Led Away to Be Crucified
26 As the soldiers led Yeshua away, they grabbed a man named Simon, who was from the city of Cyrene. Simon was coming into Jerusalem. They laid the cross on him and made him carry it behind Yeshua.
27 A large crowd followed Yeshua. The women in the crowd cried and sang funeral songs for him. 28 Yeshua turned to them and said, “You women of Jerusalem, don’t cry for me! Rather, cry for yourselves and your children! 29 The time is coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the women who couldn’t get pregnant, who couldn’t give birth, and who couldn’t nurse a child.’ 30 Then people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ 31 If people do this to a green tree, what will happen to a dry one?”
32 Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be executed with him.
The Crucifixion(C)
33 When they came to the place called The Skull, they crucified him. The criminals were also crucified, one on his right and the other on his left.
34 Then Yeshua said, “Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they’re doing.”[b]
Meanwhile, the soldiers divided his clothes among themselves by throwing dice.
35 The people stood there watching. But the rulers were making sarcastic remarks. They said, “He saved others. If he’s the Messiah that God has chosen, let him save himself!” 36 The soldiers also made fun of him. They would go up to him, offer him some vinegar, 37 and say, “If you’re the king of the Jews, save yourself!”
38 A written notice was placed above him. It said, “This is the king of the Jews.”
Criminals Talk to Jesus
39 One of the criminals hanging there insulted Yeshua by saying, “So you’re really the Messiah, are you? Well, save yourself and us!”
40 But the other criminal scolded him: “Don’t you fear God at all? Can’t you see that you’re condemned in the same way that he is? 41 Our punishment is fair. We’re getting what we deserve. But this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Yeshua, remember me when you enter your kingdom.”
43 Yeshua said to him, “I can guarantee this truth: Today you will be with me in paradise.”
Jesus Dies on the Cross(D)
44 Around noon darkness came over the entire land and lasted until three in the afternoon. 45 The sun had stopped shining. The curtain in the temple was split in two.
46 Yeshua cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit.” After he said this, he died.
47 When an army officer saw what had happened, he praised God and said, “Certainly, this man was innocent!” 48 Crowds had gathered to see the sight. But when all of them saw what had happened, they cried and returned to the city. 49 All his friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance and watched everything.
Jesus Is Placed in a Tomb(E)
50 There was a good man who had God’s approval. His name was Joseph. He was a member of the Jewish council, 51 but he had not agreed with what they had done. He was from the Jewish city of Arimathea, and he was waiting for the kingdom of God.
52 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Yeshua. 53 After he took it down from the cross, he wrapped it in linen. Then he laid the body in a tomb cut in rock, a tomb in which no one had ever been buried. 54 It was Friday, and the day of worship was just beginning.
55 The women who had come with Yeshua from Galilee followed closely behind Joseph. They observed the tomb and how his body was laid in it. 56 Then they went back to the city and prepared spices and perfumes. But on the day of worship they rested according to the commandment.

23 І знялися всі їхні збори, і повели до Пилата Його.
2 І зачали оскаржати Його й говорити: Ми ствердили, що Цей ворохобить народ наш, і забороняє податок давати кесареві, та й говорить, що Він, Христос Цар.
3 І Пилат запитав Його, кажучи: Чи Ти Цар Юдейський? А Він відказав йому в відповідь: Сам ти кажеш...
4 І Пилат сказав первосвященикам та до народу: Я не знаходжу жадної провини в Цій Людині.
5 А вони намагались, говорячи: Він бунтує народ, навчаючи в усій Юдеї, від Галілеї почавши аж посі.
6 А Пилат, вчувши про Галілею, спитав: Хіба Він галілеянин?
7 І, дізнавшись, що Він із влади Ірода, відіслав Його Іродові, бо той в Єрусалимі також перебував тими днями.
8 Коли ж Ірод побачив Ісуса, то дуже зрадів, бо він від давнього часу бажав Його бачити, багато за Нього чував, і сподівався побачити чудо яке, що буває від Нього.

10 І стояли тут первосвященики й книжники, та завзято Його оскаржали.
11 Тоді Ірод із військом своїм ізневажив Його й насміявся, зодягнувши Його в яснобілу одіж, і відіслав до Пилата Його.
12 І того дня стали Ірод із Пилатом за приятелів між собою, бо давніш ворожнеча між ними була.
13 А Пилат скликав первосвящеників, і старшин, і народ,
14 і промовив до них: Привели ви мені Чоловіка Цього, як того, що бунтує народ. А ось я перед вами розвідав, і не знаходжу в Людині Оцій ані однієї провини такої, про що ви оскаржаєте.
15 Також Ірод, бо він відіслав Його нам. І ось нічого, що на смерть заслуговувало б, Він не вчинив.
16 Отже я покараю Його й відпущу.
17 Бо повинен був їм відпустити одного на свято.
18 А народ став кричати й казати: Візьми Цього, відпусти ж нам Варавву!
19 А той за повстання одне, яке сталося в місті, і за вбивство посаджений був до в'язниці.
20 І знову сказав їм Пилат, хотячи відпустити Ісуса.
21 Та кричали вони й говорили: Розіпни, розіпни Його!
22 Він же втретє промовив до них: Яке ж зло вчинив Він? Я нічого, що на смерть заслуговувало б, на Нім не знайшов. Отже я покараю Його й відпущу.
23 А вони сильним криком свого домагалися, та вимагали розп'ясти Його. І взяв гору крик їхній та первосвящеників.
24 І Пилат присудив, щоб було, як просили вони:
25 відпустив їм Варавву, посадженого за повстання та вбивство в в'язницю, за якого просили вони, а Ісуса віддав їхній волі...
26 І як Його повели, то схопили якогось Симона із Кірінеї, що з поля вертався, і поклали на нього хреста, щоб він ніс за Ісусом!
27 А за Ним ішов натовп великий людей і жінок, які плакали та голосили за Ним.
28 А Ісус обернувся до них та й промовив: Дочки єрусалимські, не ридайте за Мною, за собою ридайте й за дітьми своїми!
29 Бо ось дні настають, коли скажуть: Блаженні неплідні, та утроби, які не родили, і груди, що не годували...
30 Тоді стануть казати горам: Поспадайте на нас, а узгір'ям: Покрийте нас!
31 Бо коли таке роблять зеленому дереву, то що буде сухому?
32 І вели з Ним також двох злочинників інших, щоб убити.
33 А коли прибули на те місце, що звуть Череповище, розп'яли тут Його та злочинників, одного праворуч, а одного ліворуч.
34 Ісус же промовив: Отче, відпусти їм, бо не знають, що чинять вони!... А як Його одіж ділили, то кидали жереба.
35 А люди стояли й дивились... Насміхалися з ними й старшини, говорячи: Він інших спасав, нехай Сам Себе визволить, коли Він Христос, Божий Обранець!
36 І вояки глузували з Нього: приступаючи, оцет Йому подавали,
37 і казали: Коли Цар Ти Юдейський, спаси Себе Сам!
38 Був же й напис над Ним письмом грецьким, латинським і гебрейським написаний: Це Цар Юдейський.
39 А один із розп'ятих злочинників став зневажати Його й говорити: Чи Ти не Христос? То спаси Себе й нас!
40 Обізвався ж той другий, і докоряв йому, кажучи: Чи не боїшся ти Бога, коли й сам на те саме засуджений?
41 Але ми справедливо засуджені, і належну заплату за вчинки свої беремо, Цей же жадного зла не вчинив.
42 І сказав до Ісуса: Спогадай мене, Господи, коли прийдеш у Царство Своє!
43 І промовив до нього Ісус: Поправді кажу тобі: ти будеш зо Мною сьогодні в раю!
44 Наближалася шоста година, і темрява стала по цілій землі аж до години дев'ятої...
45 І сонце затьмилось, і в храмі завіса роздерлась надвоє...
46 І, скрикнувши голосом гучним, промовив Ісус: Отче, у руки Твої віддаю Свого духа! І це прорікши, Він духа віддав...
47 Коли ж сотник побачив, що сталось, він Бога прославив, говорячи: Дійсно праведний був Чоловік Цей!
48 І ввесь натовп, який зійшовсь на видовище це, як побачив, що сталось, бив у груди себе та вертався...
49 Усі ж знайомі Його й ті жінки, що прийшли були з Ним із Галілеї, здалека стояли й дивились на це...
50 І ось муж, на ім'я йому Йосип, що був радником синедріону, людина шановна і праведна,
51 не пристав він до ради та чину їх, із Ариматеї, юдейського міста, що й сам сподівався Божого Царства,
52 цей прийшов до Пилата, і тіла Ісусового став просити.
53 І Йосип, знявши Його, обгорнув плащаницею, і поклав Його в гробі, що в скелі був висічений, і що в ньому ніколи ніхто не лежав.
54 День той був Приготування, і наставала субота.
55 А жінки, що прийшли були з Ним із Галілеї, ішли слідом, і вони бачили гроба, і як покладене тіло Його.
56 Повернувшись, вони наготували пахощів і мира, а в суботу, за заповіддю, спочивали.

Jesús ante Pilato
23 Entonces toda la asamblea de ellos se levantó, y llevaron a Jesús[a] ante Pilato(A). 2 (B)Y comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: Hemos hallado que este pervierte a nuestra nación(C), prohibiendo pagar[b] impuesto al César(D), y diciendo que Él mismo es Cristo[c], un Rey. 3 Pilato entonces le preguntó, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Y Jesús respondiéndole, dijo: Tú lo dices(E). 4 Y Pilato dijo a los principales sacerdotes y a la multitud: No encuentro delito en este hombre(F). 5 Pero ellos insistían, diciendo: Él alborota al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea(G) hasta aquí. 6 Cuando Pilato oyó esto, preguntó si el hombre era galileo. 7 Y al saber que Jesús pertenecía a la jurisdicción de Herodes, le remitió a Herodes(H), que también estaba en Jerusalén en aquellos[d] días.

8 Herodes, al ver a Jesús se alegró en gran manera, pues hacía mucho tiempo que quería verle(I) por lo que había oído hablar de Él, y esperaba ver alguna señal[e] que Él hiciera. 9 Y le interrogó extensamente[f], pero Jesús[g] nada le respondió(J). 10 Los principales sacerdotes y los escribas también estaban allí, acusándole con vehemencia. 11 Entonces Herodes, con sus soldados, después de tratarle con desprecio y burlarse de Él, le vistió con un espléndido manto(K) y le envió de nuevo a Pilato. 12 Aquel mismo día Herodes y Pilato(L) se hicieron amigos, pues antes habían estado enemistados el uno con el otro.
Pilato condena a Jesús
13 Entonces Pilato convocó a los principales sacerdotes, a los gobernantes(M) y al pueblo, 14 y les dijo: Me habéis presentado a este hombre como uno que incita al pueblo a la rebelión(N), pero[h] habiéndole interrogado yo delante de vosotros, no he hallado ningún delito en este hombre(O) de las acusaciones que hacéis contra Él. 15 Ni tampoco Herodes(P), pues nos lo ha remitido de nuevo; y he aquí que nada ha hecho[i] que merezca la muerte. 16 Por consiguiente, después de castigarle, le soltaré(Q). 17 [j]Y tenía obligación de soltarles un preso en cada fiesta. 18 Pero todos ellos gritaron a una, diciendo: ¡(R)Fuera con este, y suéltanos a Barrabás! 19 (Este[k] había sido echado en la cárcel por un levantamiento ocurrido en la ciudad, y por homicidio.) 20 Pilato, queriendo soltar a Jesús, les volvió a hablar, 21 pero ellos continuaban gritando, diciendo: ¡Crucifícale! ¡Crucifícale! 22 Y él les dijo por tercera vez: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho este? No he hallado en Él ningún delito digno de muerte; por tanto, le castigaré y le soltaré(S). 23 Pero ellos insistían, pidiendo a grandes voces que fuera crucificado. Y sus voces comenzaron a predominar. 24 Entonces Pilato decidió[l] que se les concediera su demanda. 25 Y soltó al que ellos pedían, al que había sido echado en la cárcel por sedición y homicidio, pero a Jesús lo entregó a la voluntad de ellos.
Jesús se dirige al Calvario
26 (T)Cuando le llevaban, tomaron a un cierto Simón de Cirene que venía del campo y le pusieron la cruz encima para que la llevara detrás de Jesús(U).
27 Y le seguía una gran multitud del pueblo y de mujeres que lloraban[m] y se lamentaban(V) por Él. 28 Pero Jesús, volviéndose a ellas, dijo: Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí; llorad más bien por vosotras mismas y por vuestros hijos. 29 Porque he aquí, vienen días en que dirán: «Dichosas[n] las estériles, y los vientres que nunca concibieron, y los senos que nunca criaron(W)». 30 Entonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: «Caed sobre nosotros»; y a los collados: «Cubridnos(X)». 31 Porque si en el árbol verde hacen esto, ¿qué sucederá en el seco?
32 Y llevaban también a otros dos, que eran malhechores, para ser muertos con Él(Y).
La crucifixión
33 (Z)Cuando llegaron al lugar llamado «La Calavera[o]», crucificaron allí a Jesús[p] y a los malhechores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda. 34 Y Jesús decía: Padre(AA), perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen[q]. Y echaron suertes, repartiéndose entre sí sus vestidos(AB). 35 Y el pueblo estaba allí mirando; y aun los gobernantes(AC) se mofaban de Él, diciendo: A otros salvó; que se salve a sí mismo(AD) si este es el Cristo[r] de Dios, su Escogido. 36 Los soldados también se burlaban de Él, acercándose y ofreciéndole vinagre(AE), 37 y diciendo: Si tú eres el Rey de los judíos, sálvate a ti mismo(AF). 38 Había también una inscripción sobre Él[s], que decía: ESTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS(AG).
Los dos malhechores
39 Y uno de los malhechores que estaban colgados allí le lanzaba insultos[t](AH), diciendo: ¿No eres tú el Cristo[u]? ¡Sálvate a ti mismo(AI) y a nosotros! 40 Pero el otro le contestó, y reprendiéndole, dijo: ¿Ni siquiera temes tú a Dios a pesar de que estás bajo la misma condena? 41 Y nosotros a la verdad, justamente, porque recibimos lo que merecemos por nuestros hechos[v]; pero este nada malo ha hecho. 42 Y decía: Jesús, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en[w] tu reino. 43 Entonces Él le dijo: En verdad te digo: hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso(AJ).
Muerte de Jesús
44 (AK)Era ya como la hora sexta[x], cuando descendieron[y] tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena[z](AL) 45 al eclipsarse el sol. El velo del templo se rasgó en dos[aa](AM). 46 Y Jesús, clamando a gran voz, dijo: Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu(AN). Y habiendo dicho esto, expiró(AO). 47 Cuando el centurión vio lo que había sucedido(AP), glorificaba a Dios(AQ), diciendo: Ciertamente, este hombre era inocente[ab]. 48 Y cuando todas las multitudes que se habían reunido para presenciar este espectáculo, al observar lo que había acontecido, se volvieron golpeándose el pecho(AR). 49 Pero todos sus conocidos y las mujeres que le habían acompañado desde Galilea, estaban a cierta distancia viendo estas cosas(AS).
Sepultura de Jesús
50 (AT)Y había[ac] un hombre llamado José, miembro del concilio(AU), varón bueno y justo 51 (el cual no había asentido al plan y al proceder de los demás[ad]) que era de Arimatea, ciudad de los judíos, y que esperaba el reino de Dios(AV). 52 Este fue a Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús, 53 y bajándole, le envolvió en un lienzo de lino, y le puso en un sepulcro excavado en la roca donde nadie había sido puesto todavía. 54 Era el día de la preparación(AW), y estaba para comenzar[ae] el día de reposo. 55 Y las mujeres que habían venido con Él desde Galilea(AX) siguieron detrás, y vieron el sepulcro y cómo fue colocado el[af] cuerpo. 56 Y cuando regresaron, prepararon especias aromáticas y perfumes(AY).
Y en el día de reposo descansaron según el mandamiento(AZ).

23 Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.(A) 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation.(B) He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar(C) and claims to be Messiah, a king.”(D)
3 So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
4 Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”(E)
5 But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee(F) and has come all the way here.”
6 On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.(G) 7 When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod,(H) who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him.(I) From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. 9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.(J) 10 The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. 11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe,(K) they sent him back to Pilate. 12 That day Herod and Pilate became friends(L)—before this they had been enemies.
13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, 14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.(M) 15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. 16 Therefore, I will punish him(N) and then release him.” [17] [a]
18 But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”(O) 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22 For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”(P)
23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.
The Crucifixion of Jesus(Q)
26 As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene,(R) who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.(S) 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed(T) for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.(U) 29 For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’(V) 30 Then
31 For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”(X)
32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.(Y) 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father,(Z) forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”[c](AA) And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.(AB)
35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him.(AC) They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”(AD)
36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him.(AE) They offered him wine vinegar(AF) 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews,(AG) save yourself.”
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.(AH)
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”(AI)
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”(AJ)
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[d]”(AK)
43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”(AL)
The Death of Jesus(AM)
44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,(AN) 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple(AO) was torn in two.(AP) 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice,(AQ) “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”[e](AR) When he had said this, he breathed his last.(AS)
47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God(AT) and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts(AU) and went away. 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee,(AV) stood at a distance,(AW) watching these things.
The Burial of Jesus(AX)
50 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, 51 who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.(AY) 52 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. 53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. 54 It was Preparation Day,(AZ) and the Sabbath was about to begin.
55 The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee(BA) followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. 56 Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes.(BB) But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.(BC)

2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.
4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.
7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
17 (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
19 (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
25 And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
27 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
32 And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
