⁸ Now when Herod saw Jesus, ^(A)he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because ^(B)he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him.

^7 (B)Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, ⁸ and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again. ⁹ Herod said, “John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?” ^(C)So he sought to see Him.

14 At that time ^(B)Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus

¹⁹ saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

²³ He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in ^(A)Capernaum,^[a] do also here in ^(B)Your country.’ ”

¹¹ But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, “Indeed, I said to myself, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.’

³ Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.” ⁴ And Naaman went in and told his master, saying, “Thus and thus said the girl who is from the land of Israel.”

⁵ Then the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”

So he departed and ^(A)took with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing. ⁶ Then he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which said,
