³⁹ One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding^[a] him and saying, “Are you not the Messiah?^[b] Save yourself and us!”^(A)

⁴⁴ The rebels who were crucified with him also taunted him in the same way.

³⁵ And the people stood by watching, but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah^[a] of God, his chosen one!”^(A)

³² Let the Messiah,^[a] the King of Israel, come down from the cross now, so that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also taunted him.^(A)

³⁷ and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”

³⁴ I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. ³⁵ There will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken and the other left.”^[a]
