Crucified between Two Criminals
32 Two others—criminals(A)—were also led away to be executed with him. 33 When(B) they arrived at the place called The Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. 34 Then Jesus said, “Father,(C) forgive(D) them, because they do not know what they are doing.”[a](E) And they divided his clothes and cast lots.(F)
35 The(G) people stood watching, and even the leaders were scoffing:(H) “He saved others; let him save himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One!” (I) 36 The soldiers also mocked him. They came offering him sour wine(J) 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews,(K) save yourself!”
38 An inscription was above him:[b] This Is the King of the Jews.
39 Then(L) one of the criminals hanging there began to yell insults at[c] him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40 But the other answered, rebuking him: “Don’t you even fear God,(M) since you are undergoing the same punishment? 41 We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”(N) 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me[d](O) when you come into your kingdom.”(P)
43 And he said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”(Q)

The Death of Jesus
33 When(A) it was noon,[a] darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.[b](B) 34 And at three Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lemá sabachtháni?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”[c](C)
35 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “See, he’s calling for Elijah.”
36 Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, fixed it on a stick, offered him a drink,(D) and said, “Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down.”

Isaiah 50:7-10
Christian Standard Bible
7 The Lord God will help me;
therefore I have not been humiliated;
therefore I have set my face like flint,(A)
and I know I will not be put to shame.
8 The one who vindicates me is near;(B)
who will contend with me?
Let us confront each other.[a]
Who has a case against me?[b]
Let him come near me!
9 In truth, the Lord God will help me;
who will condemn me?(C)
Indeed, all of them will wear out like a garment;
a moth will devour them.(D)
10 Who among you fears the Lord
and listens to his servant?(E)
Who among you walks in darkness,
and has no light?
Let him trust in the name of the Lord;
let him lean on his God.

The First Christian Martyr
54 When they heard these things, they were enraged[a] and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.(A) 56 He said, “Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” (B)
57 They yelled at the top of their voices, covered their ears, and together rushed against him. 58 They dragged him out of the city and began to stone(C) him. And the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.(D) 59 While they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!” (E) 60 He knelt down and cried out with a loud voice,(F) “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” And after saying this, he fell asleep.(G)
