^25 (A)And he released ^[a]to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

¹⁴ But you denied ^(A)the Holy One ^(B)and the Just, and ^(C)asked for a murderer to be granted to you,

^40 (A)Then they all cried again, saying, “Not this Man, but Barabbas!” ^(B)Now Barabbas was a robber.

⁵ But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from ^(A)Galilee to this place.”

² And they began to ^(A)accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow ^(B)perverting ^[a]the nation, and ^(C)forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying ^(D)that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

^15 (A)So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged Him, to be ^(B)crucified.

Taking the Place of Barabbas^(A)

⁶ Now ^(B)at the feast he was accustomed to releasing one prisoner to them, whomever they requested. ⁷ And there was one named Barabbas, who was chained with his fellow rebels; they had committed murder in the rebellion.

²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them; and when ^(A)he had ^[a]scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.

¹³ “Now therefore, ^(A)here is the king ^(B)whom you have chosen and whom you have desired. And take note, ^(C)the Lord has set a king over you.
