^67 (A)“If You are the Christ, tell us.”

But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will ^(B)by no means believe.

Who Has Believed Our Report?

³⁷ But although He had done so many ^(A)signs before them, they did not believe in Him, ³⁸ that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke:

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:

^41 (E)These things Isaiah said ^[a]when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.

Walk in the Light

⁴² Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but ^(F)because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; ^43 (G)for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

²⁴ Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in ^[a]doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

²⁵ Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. ^(A)The works that I do in My Father’s name, they ^(B)bear witness of Me. ²⁶ But ^(C)you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, ^[b]as I said to you.

²⁷ He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”

²⁸ Then they reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples.

^43 (A)Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. ^44 (B)You are of your father the devil, and the ^(C)desires of your father you want to ^(D)do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and ^(E)does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. ⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.

^39 (A)You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and ^(B)these are they which testify of Me. ^40 (C)But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

^41 (D)“I do not receive honor from men. ⁴² But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. ⁴³ I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. ^44 (E)How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek ^(F)the honor that comes from the only God? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; ^(G)there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. ⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; ^(H)for he wrote about Me. ⁴⁷ But if you ^(I)do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

³¹ But he said to him, ^(A)‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, ^(B)neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ”

⁶¹ But ^(A)He kept silent and answered nothing.

^(B)Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”

⁶² Jesus said, “I am. ^(C)And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

⁶³ Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? ⁶⁴ You have heard the ^(D)blasphemy! What do you think?”

And they all condemned Him to be deserving of ^(E)death.

⁶⁵ Then some began to ^(F)spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers ^[a]struck Him with the palms of their hands.

Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps^(G)

^66 (H)Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came.

⁶³ But ^(A)Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, ^(B)“I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!”

⁶⁴ Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, ^(C)hereafter you will see the Son of Man ^(D)sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

^65 (E)Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His ^(F)blasphemy! ⁶⁶ What do you think?”

They answered and said, ^(G)“He is deserving of death.”

^67 (H)Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and ^(I)others struck Him with ^[a]the palms of their hands, ⁶⁸ saying, ^(J)“Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?”
