Paul Defends His Authority

10 Now I, Paul, appeal to you with the gentleness and kindness of Christ—though I realize you think I am timid in person and bold only when I write from far away.

²¹ Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

²¹ For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered^[a] for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.

⁸ “I told you that I am he,” Jesus said. “And since I am the one you want, let these others go.” ⁹ He did this to fulfill his own statement: “I did not lose a single one of those you have given me.”^[a]

¹² During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me.^[a] I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.
