Watch Yourselves

³⁴ “But watch yourselves ^(A)lest ^(B)your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and ^(C)cares of this life, and ^(D)that day come upon you suddenly ^(E)like a trap. ³⁵ For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ But ^(F)stay awake at all times, ^(G)praying that you may ^(H)have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and ^(I)to stand before the Son of Man.”

¹⁷ and if children, then ^(A)heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, ^(B)provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Future Glory

¹⁸ For I consider that the sufferings of this present time ^(C)are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. ¹⁹ For the creation waits with eager longing for ^(D)the revealing of the sons of God. ²⁰ For the creation ^(E)was subjected to futility, not willingly, but ^(F)because of him who subjected it, in hope ²¹ that ^(G)the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. ²² For we know that ^(H)the whole creation ^(I)has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. ²³ And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have ^(J)the firstfruits of the Spirit, ^(K)groan inwardly as ^(L)we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, ^(M)the redemption of our bodies. ²⁴ For ^(N)in this hope we were saved. Now ^(O)hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? ²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, we ^(P)wait for it with patience.

⁶ since indeed God considers it ^(A)just ^(B)to repay with affliction those who afflict you, ⁷ and to grant ^(C)relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when ^(D)the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven ^(E)with his mighty angels ^8 (F)in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those ^(G)who do not know God and on those who ^(H)do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ They will suffer the punishment of ^(I)eternal destruction, ^(J)away from^[a] the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, ^10 (K)when he comes on ^(L)that day ^(M)to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our ^(N)testimony to you ^(O)was believed.

⁹ then ^(A)the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials,^[a] and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,

¹³ But according to his promise we are waiting for ^(A)new heavens and a new earth ^(B)in which righteousness dwells.

Final Words

^14 (C)Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him ^(D)without spot or ^(E)blemish, and ^(F)at peace.

¹⁰ and ^(A)to wait for his Son ^(B)from heaven, ^(C)whom he raised from the dead, Jesus ^(D)who delivers us from ^(E)the wrath to come.

⁸ Henceforth there is ^(A)laid up for me ^(B)the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, ^(C)the righteous judge, will award to me on ^(D)that day, and not only to me but also to all ^(E)who have loved his appearing.

³⁵ Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has ^(A)a great reward.

⁴ to ^(A)an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and ^(B)unfading, ^(C)kept in heaven for you, ⁵ who by God's power are being guarded ^(D)through faith for a salvation ^(E)ready to be revealed in the last time. ⁶ In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by ^(F)various trials, ⁷ so that ^(G)the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes ^(H)though it is tested by ^(I)fire—may be found to result in ^(J)praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ^8 (K)Though you have not seen him, you love him. ^(L)Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, ⁹ obtaining ^(M)the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
