⁴⁴ David thus calls him Lord, so ^(A)how is he his son?”

^16 (A)“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things ^(B)for the churches. I am ^(C)the root and ^(D)the descendant of David, ^(E)the bright morning star.”

¹⁶ Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:

⁴ But ^(A)when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, ^(B)born ^(C)of woman, born ^(D)under the law,

⁵ To them belong ^(A)the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, ^(B)who is God over all, ^(C)blessed forever. Amen.

¹¹ For ^(A)unto you is born this day in ^(B)the city of David ^(C)a Savior, who is ^(D)Christ ^(E)the Lord.

³¹ And behold, ^(A)you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and ^(B)you shall call his name Jesus. ³² He will be great and will be called the Son of ^(C)the Most High. And the Lord God ^(D)will give to him the throne of ^(E)his father David, ³³ and he will reign over the house of Jacob ^(F)forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

³⁴ And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”^[a]

³⁵ And the angel answered her, ^(G)“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of ^(H)the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born^[b] will be called ^(I)holy—^(J)the Son of God.

(which means, God ^(C)with us).

¹⁴ Therefore the ^(A)Lord himself will give you a sign. ^(B)Behold, the ^(C)virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name ^(D)Immanuel.^[a]
