Luke 20:39-47

³⁹Then some of the scribes ^(A)answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well.” ⁴⁰For ^(B)they no longer dared to ask him any question.

Whose Son Is the Christ?

⁴¹^(C)But he said to them, “How can they say that ^(D)the Christ is ^(E)David's son? ⁴²For David himself says in the Book of Psalms,

^(F)“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
⁴³ until I make your enemies ^(G)your footstool.”’

⁴⁴David thus calls him Lord, so ^(H)how is he his son?”

Beware of the Scribes

⁴⁵^(I)And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples, ⁴⁶“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and ^(J)the places of honor at feasts, ⁴⁷^(K)who devour widows' houses and ^(L)for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”
