²³ But he perceived their ^(A)craftiness, and said to them,

¹⁹ For ^(A)the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, ^(B)“He catches the wise in their craftiness,”

¹³ And ^(A)no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are ^(B)naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

⁹ We must not put Christ^[a] to the test, ^(A)as some of them did and ^(B)were destroyed by serpents,

²⁴ But Jesus ^(A)on his part did not entrust himself to them, because ^(B)he knew all people ²⁵ and needed no one to bear witness about man, for ^(C)he himself knew what was in man.

^20 (A)So they ^(B)watched him and sent spies, who ^(C)pretended to be sincere, that they might ^(D)catch him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of ^(E)the governor.

⁵³ As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things, ^54 (A)lying in wait for him, ^(B)to catch him in something he might say.

¹⁶ while others, ^(A)to test him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven. ^17 (B)But he, ^(C)knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.

⁸ But ^(A)he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there.

²² When Jesus ^(A)perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts?
