Paying Taxes to Caesar

^19 (A)The scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him at that very hour, for they perceived that he had told this parable against them, but they feared the people.

^47 (A)And he was teaching daily in the temple. ^(B)The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, ⁴⁸ but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.

¹⁴ But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, ^(A)‘This is the heir. ^(B)Let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.’

¹² And ^(A)they were seeking to arrest him ^(B)but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they ^(C)left him and went away.

^3 (A)Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in ^(B)the palace of the high priest, whose name was ^(C)Caiaphas, ^4 (D)and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

⁴⁵ When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. ⁴⁶ And ^(A)although they were seeking to arrest him, ^(B)they feared the crowds, because they held him to be ^(C)a prophet.
