8 In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. 9 Then an angel of the Lord(A) stood before them,(B) and the glory of the Lord(C) shone around them, and they were terrified.[a] 10 But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid,(D) for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:[b] 11 Today in the city of David a Savior(E) was born for you, who is the Messiah,(F) the Lord.(G) 12 This will be the sign for you:(H) You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.”

24 Then a dispute also arose among them about who should be considered the greatest.(A) 25 But he said to them,(B) “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who have authority over them have themselves called[a] ‘Benefactors.’ 26 It is not to be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever is greatest among you should become like the youngest,(C) and whoever leads, like the one serving. 27 For who is greater, the one at the table or the one serving? Isn’t it the one at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.(D)
