Glory in the Highest

⁸ Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.

³⁴ But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a ^(A)lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, ³⁵ I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.

^39 (A)That which was torn by beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it. ^(B)You required it from my hand, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. ⁴⁰ There I was! In the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night, and my sleep departed from my eyes.

⁸ All who ever came ^[a]before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. ^9 (A)I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. ¹⁰ The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

^11 (B)“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. ¹² But a ^[b]hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and ^(C)leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.

⁸ “As I live,” says the Lord God, “surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock ^(A)became food for every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, ^(B)but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock”—

3 Now Moses was tending the flock of ^(B)Jethro his father-in-law, ^(C)the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to ^(D)Horeb, ^(E)the mountain of God. ² And ^(F)the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
