¹⁷ Now when they had seen Him, they made ^[a]widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.

³⁹ “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

³⁸ And coming in that instant she gave thanks to ^[a]the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who ^(A)looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

A Book of Remembrance

²⁸ The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, ²⁹ “Come, see a Man ^(A)who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the ^[a]Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). ⁴² And he brought him to Jesus.

Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of ^[b]Jonah. ^(A)You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, ^[c]A Stone).

Philip and Nathanael

⁴³ The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found ^(B)Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” ⁴⁴ Now ^(C)Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found ^(D)Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom ^(E)Moses in the law, and also the ^(F)prophets, wrote—Jesus ^(G)of Nazareth, the ^(H)son of Joseph.”

⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, ^(I)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
