¹⁷ And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.

³⁹ “Return to your home, and ^(A)declare how much God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.

³⁸ And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were ^(A)waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

The Book of Remembrance

¹⁶ Then those who feared the Lord ^(A)spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and ^(B)a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name.

²⁸ So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, ²⁹ “Come, see a man ^(A)who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found ^(A)the Messiah” (which means Christ). ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of ^(B)John. You shall be called ^(C)Cephas” (which means ^(D)Peter^[a]).

Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

^43 (E)The next day Jesus decided ^(F)to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” ⁴⁴ Now ^(G)Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found ^(H)Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom ^(I)Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus ^(J)of Nazareth, ^(K)the son of Joseph.” ⁴⁶ Nathanael said to him, ^(L)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
