Jesus Cleanses the Temple^(A)

^12 (B)Then Jesus went into the temple ^[a]of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the ^(C)money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. ¹³ And He said to them, “It is written, ^(D)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ^(E)‘den of thieves.’ ”

^15 (B)So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold ^(C)doves. ¹⁶ And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. ¹⁷ Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ^(D)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ^(E)‘den of thieves.’ ”

^13 (B)Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ^14 (C)And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers ^[a]doing business. ¹⁵ When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. ¹⁶ And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make ^(D)My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” ¹⁷ Then His disciples remembered that it was written, ^(E)“Zeal for Your house ^[b]has eaten Me up.”

²⁵ then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses. ²⁶ And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall ^(A)rejoice, you and your household.
