Parables on Prayer
18 Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they (A)ought to pray and not (B)become discouraged, 2 saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not (C)respect any person. 3 Now there was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my [a]opponent.’ 4 For a while he was unwilling; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor (D)respect any person, 5 yet (E)because this widow is bothering me, I will give her justice; otherwise [b]by continually coming she will (F)wear me out.’” 6 And (G)the Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge *said; 7 now, will God not (H)bring about justice for His (I)elect who cry out to Him day [c]and night, and will He (J)delay long for them? 8 I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, (K)will He find [d]faith on the earth?”
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 Now He also told this parable to some people who (L)trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and (M)viewed others with contempt: 10 “Two men (N)went up into the [e]temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee (O)stood and began praying this in regard to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, crooked, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I (P)fast twice a week; I (Q)pay tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, (R)standing some distance away, (S)was even unwilling to raise his eyes toward heaven, but (T)was beating his chest, saying, ‘God, be [f]merciful to me, the sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; (U)for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
15 (V)Now they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them. 16 But Jesus called for [g]the little ones, saying, “Allow the children to come to Me, and do not [h]forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I say to you, (W)whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”
The Rich Young Ruler
18 (X)A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 But Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me [i]good? No one is [j]good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments, ‘(Y)Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Honor your father and mother.’” 21 And he said, “All these things I have kept since my youth.” 22 Now when Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; (Z)sell all that you possess and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have (AA)treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 23 But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely wealthy. 24 And Jesus looked at him and said, “(AB)How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God! 25 For (AC)it is easier for a camel to [k]go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God!” 26 Those who heard Him said, “And so who can be saved?” 27 But He said, “(AD)The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.”
28 Peter said, “Behold, (AE)we have left [l]our own homes and followed You.” 29 And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, (AF)there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who will not receive many times as much at this time, and in (AG)the age to come, eternal life.”
31 (AH)Now He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, (AI)we are going up to Jerusalem, and (AJ)all the things that have been written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished. 32 (AK)For He will be [m]handed over to the Gentiles, and will be ridiculed, and abused, and spit upon, 33 and after they have flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise.” 34 [n](AL)The disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.
Bartimaeus Receives Sight
35 (AM)Now as [o](AN)Jesus was approaching Jericho, a man who was blind was sitting by the road, begging. 36 But when he heard a crowd going by, he began inquiring what this was. 37 They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 And he called out, saying, “Jesus, (AO)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 Those who led the way were sternly telling him to be quiet; but he kept crying out all the more, “(AP)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him; and when he came near, He asked him, 41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, I want to regain my sight!” 42 And Jesus said to him, “Regain your sight; (AQ)your faith has [p]made you well.” 43 And immediately he regained his sight and began following Him, (AR)glorifying God; and when (AS)all the people saw it, they gave praise to God.
Zaccheus Converted
19 Jesus (AT)entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 And [q]there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich. 3 Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and he was unable due to the crowd, because he was short in stature. 4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up a [r](AU)sycamore tree in order to see Him, because He was about to pass through that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 And he hurried and came down, and received Him [s]joyfully. 7 When the people saw this, they all began to complain, saying, “He has gone in [t]to be the guest of a man who is a sinner!” 8 But Zaccheus stopped and said to (AV)the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I am giving to the poor, and if I have (AW)extorted anything from anyone, I am giving back (AX)four times as much.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is (AY)a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Parable of the Ten Minas
11 Now while they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because (AZ)He was near Jerusalem and they thought that (BA)the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. 12 So He said, “(BB)A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then to return. 13 And he called ten of his own slaves and gave them ten [u]minas, and said to them, ‘Do business with this money [v]until I come back.’ 14 But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ 15 When he returned after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be summoned to him so that he would learn how much they had made by the business they had done. 16 The first slave appeared, saying, ‘[w]Master, your [x]mina has made ten minas more.’ 17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave; since you have been (BC)faithful in a very little thing, you are to have authority over ten cities.’ 18 The second one came, saying, ‘Your [y]mina, [z]master, has made five minas.’ 19 And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’ 20 And then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept tucked away in a handkerchief; 21 for I was afraid of you, because you are a demanding man; you take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.’ 22 He *said to him, ‘[aa]From your own lips I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am a demanding man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow? 23 And so why did you not put my money in the bank, and when I came back, I would have collected it with interest?’ 24 And then he said to the other slaves who were present, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ 25 And they said to him, ‘Master, he already has ten minas.’ 26 ‘(BD)I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 27 But as for (BE)these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and (BF)slaughter them in my presence.’”
Triumphal Entry
28 After Jesus said these things, He (BG)was going on ahead, (BH)going up to Jerusalem.
29 (BI)When He approached Bethphage and (BJ)Bethany, near the [ab]mountain that is called (BK)Olivet, He sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village [ac]ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘[ad]The Lord has need of it.’” 32 So those who were sent left and found it just as He had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its [ae]owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “[af]The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, (BL)and they threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 Now as He was going, they were spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 And as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of (BM)the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to (BN)praise God [ag]joyfully with a loud voice for all the [ah]miracles which they had seen, 38 [ai]shouting:
“(BO)Blessed is the (BP)King, the One who comes in the name of the Lord;
Peace in heaven and (BQ)glory in the highest!”
39 (BR)And yet some of the Pharisees [aj]in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!” 40 Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these stop speaking, (BS)the stones will cry out!”
41 When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and (BT)wept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known on this day, even you, the conditions for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you [ak]when your enemies will (BU)put up a [al]barricade against you, and (BV)surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground, and throw down your children within you, and (BW)they will not leave in you one stone upon [am]another, because you did not recognize (BX)the time of your visitation.”
Traders Driven from the Temple
45 (BY)And Jesus entered the temple grounds and began to drive out those who were selling, 46 saying to them, “It is written: ‘(BZ)And My house will be a house of prayer,’ (CA)but you have made it a den of robbers.”
47 And (CB)He was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people (CC)were trying to put Him to death, 48 and yet they could not find [an]anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to [ao]every word He said.
Jesus’ Authority Questioned
20 (CD)On one of the days while (CE)He was teaching the people in the temple and (CF)preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders (CG)confronted Him, 2 and they declared, saying to Him, “Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who is the one who gave You this authority?” 3 But He replied to them, “I will also ask you a [ap]question, and you tell Me: 4 Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?” 5 They discussed among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’ 6 But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us to death, since they are convinced that John was a (CH)prophet.” 7 And so they answered that they did not know where it came from. 8 And Jesus said to them, “Neither am I telling you by what authority I do these things.”
Parable of the Vine-growers
9 (CI)But He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and leased it to [aq]vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time. 10 At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, so that they would give him his share of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine-growers beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 11 And he proceeded to send another slave; but they beat him also and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. 12 And he proceeded to send a third; but this one too they wounded and threw out. 13 Now the [ar]owner of the vineyard said, ‘What am I to do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will (CJ)respect him.’ 14 But when the vine-growers saw him, they discussed with one another, saying, ‘This is the heir; let’s kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’ 15 And so they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the [as]owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and (CK)put these vine-growers to death, and will give the vineyard to others.” However, when they heard this, they said, “(CL)May it never happen!” 17 But [at]Jesus looked at them and said, “Then what is this statement that has been written:
18 (CO)Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”
Paying Taxes to Caesar
19 The scribes and the chief priests (CP)tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and yet they feared the people; for they were aware that He had spoken this parable against them. 20 (CQ)And so they watched Him [av]closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order (CR)that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of (CS)the governor. 21 And the spies questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You [aw]are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth. 22 Is it [ax]permissible for us (CT)to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 23 But He saw through their trickery and said to them, 24 “Show Me a [ay]denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.” 25 And He said to them, “Then (CU)pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 26 And they were unable to (CV)catch Him in a statement in the presence of the people; and they were amazed at His answer, and said nothing.
Is There a Resurrection?
27 (CW)Now some of the (CX)Sadducees (who maintain that there is no resurrection) came to Him, 28 and they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that (CY)if [az]a man’s brother dies, [ba]leaving a wife, and he is childless, that his brother is to [bb]marry the wife and raise up children [bc]for his brother. 29 So then, there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless; 30 and the second 31 and the third [bd]married her; and in the same way [be]all seven [bf]died, leaving no children. 32 Finally the woman also died. 33 Therefore, in the resurrection, [bg]which one’s wife does the woman become? For [bh]all seven [bi]married her.”
34 Jesus said to them, “The sons of (CZ)this age marry and the women are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to (DA)that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; 36 for they cannot even die anymore, for they are like angels, and are (DB)sons of God, being [bj]sons of the resurrection. 37 But as for the fact that the dead are raised, even Moses revealed this in (DC)the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord (DD)the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38 (DE)Now He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for (DF)all live to Him.” 39 Some of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.” 40 For (DG)they did not have the courage to question Him any longer about anything.
41 (DH)But He said to them, “How is it that they say the [bk]Christ is (DI)David’s son? 42 For David himself says in the book of Psalms,
‘(DJ)The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
43 (DK)Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’
44 Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord,’ and so how is He his son?”
45 (DL)And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples, 46 “Beware of the scribes, (DM)who like to walk around in long robes, and love personal greetings in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, 47 who [bl]devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive all the more condemnation.”

יח ישוע סיפר לתלמידיו משל, כדי להדגיש לפניהם את הצורך להתפלל תמיד ללא לוותר.
2 "בעיר אחת היה שופט," פתח ישוע, "אשר לא כיבד את אלוהים ולא ירא מפניו, ואף לא חיבב את העם.
3 "באותה עיר גרה אישה אלמנה, אשר באה אל השופט לעיתים קרובות והתחננה לפניו שישפוט בצדק בינה לבין יריבה המתנכל לה. 4 זמן מה התעלם השופט מבקשתה עד שנמאסה עליו, ואמר בלבו: 'אמנם איני ירא את אלוהים ואף איני מכבד את בני האדם, 5 אולם מוטב שאצדיק את האישה הזאת במשפטה, שאם לא כן היא תמשיך להטריד אותי ולא תעזוב אותי במנוחה.'"
6 האדון המשיך: "שמעו מה שאומר השופט הרשע. אם אפילו שופט רשע זה נענה לתחינות האישה, 7 האם אינכם חושבים שאלוהים ישפוט בצדק את בניו המתפללים אליו יומם ולילה? האם יתמהמה בעניינם? 8 אלוהים יענה לתפילתם במהרה ויוציא את הצדק לאור. אולם כשבן-האדם יחזור, האם ימצא אמונה בארץ?"
9 ישוע סיפר משל נוסף. הפעם היה המשל מכוון אל הגאוותנים החושבים את עצמם לצדיקים גמורים ומזלזלים באחרים: 10 "שני אנשים באו להתפלל בבית-המקדש. האחד היה פרוש גאה וצדיק בעיני עצמו, והשני היה גובה מכס רמאי. 11 הפרוש הגאה התפלל כך: 'אני מודה לך אלוהים על שאיני חוטא ככל האחרים, ובמיוחד שאיני חוטא כמו גובה-המכס הזה העומד כאן במקדש. מעולם לא רימיתי, לא עשקתי ולא נאפתי. 12 אני צם פעמיים בשבוע ונותן לך, אלוהים, מעשר מכל רווחי.'
13 "לעומתו המוכס הרמאי שעמד במרחק מה, לא העז להרים את עיניו כשהתפלל, אלא הכה על חזהו בחרטה וקרא: 'אלוהים, סלח לי. רחם על חוטא שכמוני.' 14 אני אומר לכם, גובה-המכס ההוא הלך לביתו נקי מחטא, ולא כן הפרוש! כי הגאה יושפל, והמשפיל את עצמו יכובד וירומם."
15 יום אחד הביאו כמה אמהות את ילדיהן אל ישוע כדי שיברך אותם, אבל התלמידים לא הניחו להם לגשת אליו. 16 "הניחו לילדים לבוא אלי," אמר ישוע לתלמידיו וקרא אליו את התלמידים. "לעולם אל תגרשו את הילדים, כי לכאלה שייכת מלכות האלוהים. 17 אני אומר לכם, מי שלא מקבל את מלכות האלוהים כמו ילד, לא יוכל להיכנס אליה."
18 איש מכובד אחד שאל את ישוע: "רבי הטוב, מה עלי לעשות כדי לזכות בחיי נצח?" 19 "מדוע אתה קורא לי טוב?" שאל ישוע. "רק אלוהים טוב באמת. 20 אולם בתשובה לשאלתך, אתה מכיר את המצוות: לא תרצח, לא תנאף, לא תגנוב, לא תענה ברעך עד שקר, כבר את אביך ואמך."
21 "את כל המצוות האלה אני שומר מילדותי," השיב האיש.
22 "עליך לעשות עוד דבר אחד," אמר לו ישוע. "מכור את כל מה שיש לך ותן את הכסף לעניים – כך תאגור לך אוצר בשמים. אחר כך בוא אחרי."
23 כאשר שמע האיש את דברי ישוע הלך משם בצער רב, כי היה עשיר מאוד. 24 ישוע ליווה בעיניו את האיש ואמר לתלמידיו: "לאדם עשיר קשה מאוד להיכנס למלכות האלוהים. 25 קל יותר לגמל לעבור דרך חור המחט מאשר לאיש עשיר להיכנס למלכות האלוהים."
26 "אם כל-כך קשה להיכנס למלכות האלוהים, מי יכול להיוושע?" קראו השומעים.
27 השיב להם ישוע: "אלוהים יכול לעשות את מה שבני-האדם אינם יכולים."
28 "אנחנו עזבנו הכול והלכנו אחריך!" אמר פטרוס לישוע.
29 "כן," השיב ישוע, "וכל מי שעזב את ביתו, אשתו, אחיו, הוריו או ילדיו למען מלכות האלוהים, 30 יקבל בתמורה כפל כפליים בעולם הזה וחיי נצח בעולם הבא."
31 ישוע קיבץ סביבו את שנים-עשר תלמידיו ואמר: "כידוע לכם אנחנו הולכים עכשיו לירושלים. כשנגיע לשם יתקיים כל מה שהנביאים אמרו על בן-האדם. 32 ימסרו אותו לידי הגויים אשר יתעללו בו, ילעגו לו, ירקו בפניו, 33 יצליפו עליו בשוטים וימיתו אותו; אבל ביום השלישי יקום לתחייה."
34 התלמידים לא הבינו את דבריו שהיו סתומים עבורם.
35 בהתקרבם ליריחו ישב עיוור אחד בצד הדרך וקיבץ נדבות. 36 קולות האנשים הרבים שעברו על פניו עוררו את סקרנותו, ולכן שאל: "מה מתרחש כאן?"
37 "ישוע מנצרת עובר לפניך!" השיבו לו.
38 מששמע זאת העיוור החל לצעוק: "ישוע בן-דוד, רחם עלי!" 39 האנשים שהלכו לפני ישוע גערו בעיוור וניסו להשתיקו, אך ללא הצלחה. צעקותיו הלכו וגברו: "בן-דוד, רחם עלי!" 40 קריאותיו הנואשות של העיוור הגיעו לאוזניו של ישוע והוא עצר. "הביאו אלי את האיש," ציווה ישוע. כשהתקרב אליו העיוור שאל אותו ישוע: 41 "מה אתה רוצה שאעשה למענך?"
אדוני, אני רוצה לראות!" התחנן העיוור. 42 "ראייתך ניתנה לך!" השיב ישוע. "אמונתך ריפאה אותך."
43 מיד שבה אליו ראייתו והוא הלך אחרי ישוע, מהלל ומשבח את האלוהים. גם שאר האנשים שראו את הפלא הללו ושיבחו את האלוהים.
יט ישוע הגיע ליריחו ועבר ברחובות העיר. 2 אדם אחד בשם זכי, אשר היה מנהל בכיר ברשויות המכס, בעל השפעה וכמובן עשיר גדול, 3 רצה לראות את פניו של ישוע. אבל זכי היה נמוך-קומה, והקהל הרב הסתיר ממנו את ישוע. 4 זכי רץ לפני הקהל הרב וטיפס על עץ שיקמה בצד הדרך על מנת שיוכל להתבונן בישוע ללא הפרעה.

7 הדבר לא מצא-חן בעיני הקהל. "ישוע עומד להתארח בביתו של חוטא ידוע!" רטנו.
8 אולם זכי עמד לפני האדון ואמר: "אדוני, מהיום והלאה אתן את מחצית רכושי לעניים וכל מי שלקחתי ממנו כסף במרמה, אחזיר לו פי ארבע!" 9 "היום באה ישועה לבית הזה!" קרא ישוע. "כי זכי הוא בן-אברהם. 10 ואכן בן-האדם בא לחפש ולהושיע את האובדים."
11 כשהתקרבו לירושלים, ישוע סיפר לתלמידיו משל, כדי לתקן את הרושם המוטעה שהיה להם שמלכות האלוהים עומדת לבוא בכל רגע. 12 "אציל אחד נקרא לארץ רחוקה כדי לקבל את כתר המלוכה על מחוז מגוריו. 13 לפני צאתו לדרך קרא לעשרה ממשרתיו, נתן לכל אחד מהם מטבע זהב ואמר: 'השקיעו את הכסף וסחרו בו עד שאחזור.' 14 רבים מבני ארצו של המלך המיועד שנאו אותו, ואף שלחו בעקבותיו משלחת שהודיעה לו: 'איננו רוצים שתמלוך עלינו!"
15 "מחאתם לא הועילה, והאציל הוכתר למלך. כשחזר המלך לביתו קרא אליו את עשרת המשרתים, ושאל אותם מה עשו בכסף שנתן להם וכמה הרוויחו. 16 "המשרת הראשון בא ואמר: 'אדוני, ממטבע הזהב שנתת לי הרווחתי עשרה מטבעות זהב.'
17 "'יפה מאוד, משרתי הטוב!' שיבח אותו המלך. 'מאחר שהוכחת את נאמנותך במעט שהפקדתי בידך, אני ממנה אותך שליט על עשר ערים.'
18 "גם המשרת השני דיווח על רווח, פי חמישה ממה שקיבל.
19 "'אותך אני ממנה שליט על חמש ערים,' אמר לו המלך. 20 "אחר כך בא המשרת השלישי ואמר: 'אדוני, הנה המטבע שנתת לי; שמרתי אותו במטפחת ולא נגעתי בו. 21 כי פחדתי ממך, מפני שאתה איש קשה; אתה לוקח מה שלא שייך לך וקוצר את מה שלא זרעת.'
22 "'רשע שכמוך!' קרא המלך בזעם. 'איש קשה אני? מיד אראה לך כמה קשה אני יכול להיות! אם ידעת שאני לוקח מה שלא שייך לי וקוצר את מה שלא זרעתי, 23 מדוע לא הפקדת את הכסף בבנק? כך לפחות הייתי מקבל ריבית!'
24 "המלך פנה אל העומדים סביבו ופקד: 'קחו ממנו את המטבע ותנו לאיש שהרוויח את הסכום הגדול ביותר!'
25 "'אבל, אדון,' אמרו במחאה, 'יש לו מספיק!' 26 "'נכון,' השיב המלך. 'אני אומר לכם, מי שיש לו – יקבל עוד; מי שאין לו – גם המעט שבידו יילקח ממנו. 27 ובנוגע לאויבי אשר לא רצו שאמלוך עליהם – הביאו אותם הנה והוציאו אותם להורג לפני.
28 ישוע סיים את דבריו והמשיך בדרכו לעלות לירושלים יחד עם תלמידיו. 29 בהתקרבם אל בית-פגי ובית-עניה שעל הר הזיתים, קרא אליו ישוע שנים מתלמידיו ואמר: 30 "לכו אל הכפר ממול; בכניסה תראו עיר קשור שאיש עדיין לא רכב עליו. התירו את העיר והביאו אותו אלי. 31 אם מישהו ישאל אתכם מה אתם עושים, אמרו לו: 'האדון זקוק לעיר.'"
32 שני התלמידים הלכו אל הכפר ומצאו את העיר ממש כפי שאמר להם ישוע. 33 כשהתירו את העיר בא אליהם בעליו ושאל בתימהון: "מדוע אתם מתירים את העיר שלי?"
34 "האדון זקוק לו," השיבו התלמידים בפשטות.
35 הם הביאו את העיר אל ישוע, ריפדו את גבו במעיליהם וישוע רכב עליו. 36 אנשים רבים פרשו את מעיליהם וגלימותיהם על השביל לפניו. 37 כשהתקרב ישוע לראש השביל היורד מהר הזיתים, החלה חבורת תלמידיו לשיר ולשבח את אלוהים בקולי קולות על כל הנסים והנפלאות שחולל ישוע.
38 "ברוך הבא בשם ה'!" צהל ההמון. "יחי המלך! שמחו השמים והארץ! שבח ותהילה לאלוהים במרומים!"
39 פרושים אחדים שהיו בקרב הקהל אמרו לישוע: "רבי, נזוף בתלמידיך על הדברים שהם אומרים!"
40 אך הוא השיב להם: "אם הם ישתקו האבנים האלה תזעקנה!"
41 כאשר התקרב ישוע לירושלים, הביט בה בעצב ובכה עליה. 42 "הלוואי שידעת גם את כיצד לעשות שלום! אולם הדבר נסתר ממך," אמר ישוע בצער ובדמעות. 43 "יבוא היום שאויביך יקימו סוללות חול סביב חומותיך, יקיפו אותך ויצורו עליך מכל עבר. 44 אויביך יהרסו כליל אותך ואת בניך; הם לא ישאירו אבן אחת במקומה, משום שדחית את הישועה שהציע לך ה'."

3 "אענה לשאלתם בתנאי שתענו לשאלתי," השיב להם ישוע. 4 "האם יוחנן המטביל נשלח על-ידי אלוהים או על-ידי בני-אדם?"
5 הם התייעצו ביניהם: "אם נגיד שאלוהים שלח את יוחנן, ישוע ישאל אותנו מדוע לא האמנו בו. 6 אבל אם נגיד שאלוהים לא שלח את יוחנן, העם יתנפל עלינו, כי כולם מאמינים שיוחנן היה נביא מאת אלוהים." 7 לבסוף השיבו לישוע: "איננו יכולים להשיב לשאלתך, מפני שאיננו יודעים את התשובה." 8 "אם כן, גם אני לא אשיב לשאלתכם," אמר ישוע.
9 ישוע פנה אל העם וסיפר להם את המשל הבא: "איש אחד נטע כרם ענבים, השכיר אותו לכורמים זרים ונסע לארץ רחוקה לכמה שנים. 10 בהגיע מועד הבציר שלח בעל הכרם אחד מאנשיו לאסוף את חלקו ביבול הענבים. אבל הכורמים הכו את השליח ושלחו אותו חזרה לאדוניו בידיים ריקות. 11 בעל הכרם שלח שליח אחר, אולם גורלו היה כגורל קודמו; הכורמים הכו אותו, קיללו אותו ושלחוהו בידיים ריקות. 12 בעל הכרם שלח אדם שלישי, אבל גם אותו הם פצעו וגירשו משם.

"חס וחלילה שיעשו כך האנשים!" קראו השומעים.
17 ישוע נעץ בהם מבטו ואמר: "מה לדעתכם כוונת הפסוק בתהילים[b]: 'אבן מאסו הבונים, הייתה לראש פינה'? האבן שהבונים זלזלו בה וזרקו אותה נעשתה לאבן החשובה ביותר בכל הבניין." 18 ישוע הוסיף: "מי שייפול על האבן הזאת יתנפץ לרסיסים, ומי שתיפול עליו האבן ישחק לאבק."
19 הסופרים וראשי הכוהנים הבינו שהם הכורמים הרשעים במשל ורצו לאסור את ישוע, אבל הם פחדו שמא העם יחולל מהומות.
20 הסופרים וראשי הכוהנים ציפו להזדמנות מתאימה לאסור את ישוע ולמסור אותו לידי השלטונות. יום אחד שלחו אליו מרגלים בדמות אנשים תמימים, כדי שינסו להכשילו בלשונו.
21 "רבי," פתחו מרגלים אלה, "אנחנו יודעים שאתה איש ישר, ושאיש אינו יכול להשפיע עליך לשקר. אנחנו גם יודעים שאתה באמת מלמד את דבר-אלוהים. 22 אמור לנו, האם עלינו לשלם מס לקיסר הרומאי או לא?"
23 ישוע הבין את מזימתם ולכן ענה: 24 "תנו לי מטבע ואומר לכם. של מי הדמות החקוקה כאן? ושל מי השם החקוק מתחת לדמות?"
"של הקיסר," השיבו.
25 "של הקיסר?" שאל ישוע. "אם כן, תנו לקיסר את מה ששייך לו, ותנו לאלוהים את מה ששייך לאלוהים!"
26 ניסיונם להכשילו בלשונו לא הצליח. הם התפעלו כל-כך מתשובותיו עד שלא היו מילים בפיהם.
27 חבורה של צדוקים (הצדוקים לא האמינו בתחיית המתים) באה אל ישוע ושאלה: 28 "רבי, משה רבנו לימד אותנו בתורה שאם אדם נשוי מת ואינו משאיר אחריו ילדים, חייב אחיו להתחתן עם האלמנה, כדי שתוכל ללדת בן שישא את שם המת. 29 במשפחה אחת היו שבעה אחים. האח הבכור התחתן וכעבור זמן קצר מת ולא השאיר אחריו בן. 30 האח השני התחתן עם האלמנה, וגם הוא מת ולא השאיר בן. 31 כך היה גם עם האח השלישי. בקיצור, כל שבעת האחים התחתנו עם האישה האחת, כולם מתו ולא השאירו אחריהם ילדים. 32 לבסוף מתה גם האישה.
33 "רבי, למי תהיה שייכת האישה בתחיית המתים? הלא כל השבעה התחתנו אתה!" 34 נישואים הם רק בשביל האנשים בעולם הזה," השיב להם ישוע. 35 "אלה שיזכו לקום מן המתים ולחיות לנצח בעולם הבא, לא יינשאו. 36 בעולם הבא הם יהיו כמלאכים ושוב לא יכולים למות. הם גם בני-אלוהים, משום שקמו לתחייה. 37 "בנוגע לשאלתכם אם יקומו המתים לתחייה, משה רבנו אשרר בתורה את דבר תחיית המתים. כשתיאר משה כיצד נגלה אליו ה' בסנה הבוער, הוא קרא לה': 'אלוהי אברהם, אלוהי יצחק ואלוהי יעקב.' 38 זה כדי לומר שה' הוא אלוהי החיים ולא של המתים, כי בעיני אלוהים האנשים האלה חיים."

18 Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they (A)ought to pray and not (B)become discouraged, 2 saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not (C)respect any person. 3 Now there was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my [a]opponent.’ 4 For a while he was unwilling; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor (D)respect any person, 5 yet (E)because this widow is bothering me, I will give her justice; otherwise [b]by continually coming she will (F)wear me out.’” 6 And (G)the Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge *said; 7 now, will God not (H)bring about justice for His (I)elect who cry out to Him day [c]and night, and will He (J)delay long for them? 8 I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

The Rich Young Ruler
18 (X)A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 But Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me [i]good? Bartimaeus Receives Sight

Zaccheus Converted

Parable of the Ten Minas

Triumphal Entry
28 After Jesus said these things, He (BG)was going on ahead, (BH)going up to Jerusalem.

Traders Driven from the Temple
45 (BY)And Jesus entered the temple grounds and began to drive out those who were selling, 46 saying to them, “It is written: ‘(BZ)And My house will be a house of prayer,’ (CA)but you have made it a den of robbers.”
47 And (CB)He was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people (CC)were trying to put Him to death, 48 and yet they could not find [an]anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to [ao]every word He said.
Jesus’ Authority Questioned
20 (CD)On one of the days while (CE)He was teaching the people in the temple and (CF)preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders (CG)confronted Him, 2 and they declared, saying to Him, “Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who is the one who gave You this authority?” 3 But He replied to them, “I will also ask you a [ap]question, and you tell Me: 4 Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?” 5 They discussed among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’ 6 But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us to death, since they are convinced that John was a (CH)prophet.” 7 And so they answered that they did not know where it came from. 8 And Jesus said to them, “Neither am I telling you by what authority I do these things.”

9 (CI)But He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and leased it to [aq]vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time. 10 At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, so that they would give him his share of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine-growers beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 11 And he proceeded to send another slave; but they beat him also and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. 12 And he proceeded to send a third; but this one too they wounded and threw out. 13 Now the [ar]owner of the vineyard said, ‘What am I to do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will (CJ)respect him.’ 14 But when the vine-growers saw him, they discussed with one another, saying, ‘This is the heir; let’s kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’ 15 And so they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the [as]owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and (CK)put these vine-growers to death, and will give the vineyard to others.” However, when they heard this, they said, “(CL)May it never happen!” 17 But [at]Jesus looked at them and said, “Then what is this statement that has been written:
18 (CO)Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”
Paying Taxes to Caesar
19 The scribes and the chief priests (CP)tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and yet they feared the people; for they were aware that He had spoken this parable against them. 20 (CQ)And so they watched Him [av]closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order (CR)that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of (CS)the governor. 21 And the spies questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You [aw]are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth. 22 Is it [ax]permissible for us (CT)to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 23 But He saw through their trickery and said to them, 24 “Show Me a [ay]denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.” 25 And He said to them, “Then (CU)pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 26 And they were unable to (CV)catch Him in a statement in the presence of the people; and they were amazed at His answer, and said nothing.
Is There a Resurrection?
27 (CW)Now some of the (CX)Sadducees (who maintain that there is no resurrection) came to Him, 28 and they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that (CY)if [az]a man’s brother dies, [ba]leaving a wife, and he is childless, that his brother is to [bb]marry the wife and raise up children [bc]for his brother. 29 So then, there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless; 30 and the second 31 and the third [bd]married her; and in the same way [be]all seven [bf]died, leaving no children. 32 Finally the woman also died. 33 Therefore, in the resurrection, [bg]which one’s wife does the woman become? For [bh]all seven [bi]married her.”
34 Jesus said to them, “The sons of (CZ)this age marry and the women are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to (DA)that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; 36 for they cannot even die anymore, for they are like angels, and are (DB)sons of God, being [bj]sons of the resurrection. 37 But as for the fact that the dead are raised, even Moses revealed this in (DC)the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord (DD)the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38 (DE)Now He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for (DF)all live to Him.” 39 Some of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.” 40 For (DG)they did not have the courage to question Him any longer about anything.
41 (DH)But He said to them, “How is it that they say the [bk]Christ is (DI)David’s son? 42 For David himself says in the book of Psalms,
‘(DJ)The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
43 (DK)Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’
44 Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord,’ and so how is He his son?”
45 (DL)And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples, 46 “Beware of the scribes, (DM)who like to walk around in long robes, and love personal greetings in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, 47 who [bl]devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive all the more condemnation.”

יח ישוע סיפר לתלמידיו משל, כדי להדגיש לפניהם את הצורך להתפלל תמיד ללא לוותר.
2 "בעיר אחת היה שופט," פתח ישוע, "אשר לא כיבד את אלוהים ולא ירא מפניו, ואף לא חיבב את העם.
3 "באותה עיר גרה אישה אלמנה, אשר באה אל השופט לעיתים קרובות והתחננה לפניו שישפוט בצדק בינה לבין יריבה המתנכל לה. 4 זמן מה התעלם השופט מבקשתה עד שנמאסה עליו, ואמר בלבו: 'אמנם איני ירא את אלוהים ואף איני מכבד את בני האדם, 5 אולם מוטב שאצדיק את האישה הזאת במשפטה, שאם לא כן היא תמשיך להטריד אותי ולא תעזוב אותי במנוחה.'"
6 האדון המשיך: "שמעו מה שאומר השופט הרשע. אם אפילו שופט רשע זה נענה לתחינות האישה, 7 האם אינכם חושבים שאלוהים ישפוט בצדק את בניו המתפללים אליו יומם ולילה? האם יתמהמה בעניינם? 8 אלוהים יענה לתפילתם במהרה ויוציא את הצדק לאור. אולם כשבן-האדם יחזור, האם ימצא אמונה בארץ?"
9 ישוע סיפר משל נוסף. הפעם היה המשל מכוון אל הגאוותנים החושבים את עצמם לצדיקים גמורים ומזלזלים באחרים: 10 "שני אנשים באו להתפלל בבית-המקדש. האחד היה פרוש גאה וצדיק בעיני עצמו, והשני היה גובה מכס רמאי. 11 הפרוש הגאה התפלל כך: 'אני מודה לך אלוהים על שאיני חוטא ככל האחרים, ובמיוחד שאיני חוטא כמו גובה-המכס הזה העומד כאן במקדש. מעולם לא רימיתי, לא עשקתי ולא נאפתי. 12 אני צם פעמיים בשבוע ונותן לך, אלוהים, מעשר מכל רווחי.'
13 "לעומתו המוכס הרמאי שעמד במרחק מה, לא העז להרים את עיניו כשהתפלל, אלא הכה על חזהו בחרטה וקרא: 'אלוהים, סלח לי. רחם על חוטא שכמוני.' 14 אני אומר לכם, גובה-המכס ההוא הלך לביתו נקי מחטא, ולא כן הפרוש! כי הגאה יושפל, והמשפיל את עצמו יכובד וירומם."
15 יום אחד הביאו כמה אמהות את ילדיהן אל ישוע כדי שיברך אותם, אבל התלמידים לא הניחו להם לגשת אליו. 16 "הניחו לילדים לבוא אלי," אמר ישוע לתלמידיו וקרא אליו את התלמידים. "לעולם אל תגרשו את הילדים, כי לכאלה שייכת מלכות האלוהים. 17 אני אומר לכם, מי שלא מקבל את מלכות האלוהים כמו ילד, לא יוכל להיכנס אליה."
18 איש מכובד אחד שאל את ישוע: "רבי הטוב, מה עלי לעשות כדי לזכות בחיי נצח?" 19 "מדוע אתה קורא לי טוב?" שאל ישוע. "רק אלוהים טוב באמת. 20 אולם בתשובה לשאלתך, אתה מכיר את המצוות: לא תרצח, לא תנאף, לא תגנוב, לא תענה ברעך עד שקר, כבר את אביך ואמך."
21 "את כל המצוות האלה אני שומר מילדותי," השיב האיש.
22 "עליך לעשות עוד דבר אחד," אמר לו ישוע. "מכור את כל מה שיש לך ותן את הכסף לעניים – כך תאגור לך אוצר בשמים. אחר כך בוא אחרי."
23 כאשר שמע האיש את דברי ישוע הלך משם בצער רב, כי היה עשיר מאוד. 24 ישוע ליווה בעיניו את האיש ואמר לתלמידיו: "לאדם עשיר קשה מאוד להיכנס למלכות האלוהים. 25 קל יותר לגמל לעבור דרך חור המחט מאשר לאיש עשיר להיכנס למלכות האלוהים."
26 "אם כל-כך קשה להיכנס למלכות האלוהים, מי יכול להיוושע?" קראו השומעים.
27 השיב להם ישוע: "אלוהים יכול לעשות את מה שבני-האדם אינם יכולים."
28 "אנחנו עזבנו הכול והלכנו אחריך!" אמר פטרוס לישוע.
29 "כן," השיב ישוע, "וכל מי שעזב את ביתו, אשתו, אחיו, הוריו או ילדיו למען מלכות האלוהים, 30 יקבל בתמורה כפל כפליים בעולם הזה וחיי נצח בעולם הבא."
31 ישוע קיבץ סביבו את שנים-עשר תלמידיו ואמר: "כידוע לכם אנחנו הולכים עכשיו לירושלים. כשנגיע לשם יתקיים כל מה שהנביאים אמרו על בן-האדם. 32 ימסרו אותו לידי הגויים אשר יתעללו בו, ילעגו לו, ירקו בפניו, 33 יצליפו עליו בשוטים וימיתו אותו; אבל ביום השלישי יקום לתחייה."
34 התלמידים לא הבינו את דבריו שהיו סתומים עבורם.
35 בהתקרבם ליריחו ישב עיוור אחד בצד הדרך וקיבץ נדבות. 36 קולות האנשים הרבים שעברו על פניו עוררו את סקרנותו, ולכן שאל: "מה מתרחש כאן?"
37 "ישוע מנצרת עובר לפניך!" השיבו לו.
38 מששמע זאת העיוור החל לצעוק: "ישוע בן-דוד, רחם עלי!" 39 האנשים שהלכו לפני ישוע גערו בעיוור וניסו להשתיקו, אך ללא הצלחה. צעקותיו הלכו וגברו: "בן-דוד, רחם עלי!" 40 קריאותיו הנואשות של העיוור הגיעו לאוזניו של ישוע והוא עצר. "הביאו אלי את האיש," ציווה ישוע. כשהתקרב אליו העיוור שאל אותו ישוע: 41 "מה אתה רוצה שאעשה למענך?"
אדוני, אני רוצה לראות!" התחנן העיוור. 42 "ראייתך ניתנה לך!" השיב ישוע. "אמונתך ריפאה אותך."
43 מיד שבה אליו ראייתו והוא הלך אחרי ישוע, מהלל ומשבח את האלוהים. גם שאר האנשים שראו את הפלא הללו ושיבחו את האלוהים.
יט ישוע הגיע ליריחו ועבר ברחובות העיר. 2 אדם אחד בשם זכי, אשר היה מנהל בכיר ברשויות המכס, בעל השפעה וכמובן עשיר גדול, 3 רצה לראות את פניו של ישוע. אבל זכי היה נמוך-קומה, והקהל הרב הסתיר ממנו את ישוע. 4 זכי רץ לפני הקהל הרב וטיפס על עץ שיקמה בצד הדרך על מנת שיוכל להתבונן בישוע ללא הפרעה.
5 כאשר עבר ישוע ליד העץ, הרים את עיניו והביט בזכי. "זכי," קרא לו ישוע בשמו, "רד מהר מהעץ, כי היום עלי להתארח בביתך." 6 זכי מיהר לרדת מהעץ וקיבל את פניו של ישוע בשמחה ובששון.
7 הדבר לא מצא-חן בעיני הקהל. "ישוע עומד להתארח בביתו של חוטא ידוע!" רטנו.
8 אולם זכי עמד לפני האדון ואמר: "אדוני, מהיום והלאה אתן את מחצית רכושי לעניים וכל מי שלקחתי ממנו כסף במרמה, אחזיר לו פי ארבע!" 9 "היום באה ישועה לבית הזה!" קרא ישוע. "כי זכי הוא בן-אברהם. 10 ואכן בן-האדם בא לחפש ולהושיע את האובדים."
11 כשהתקרבו לירושלים, ישוע סיפר לתלמידיו משל, כדי לתקן את הרושם המוטעה שהיה להם שמלכות האלוהים עומדת לבוא בכל רגע. 12 "אציל אחד נקרא לארץ רחוקה כדי לקבל את כתר המלוכה על מחוז מגוריו. 13 לפני צאתו לדרך קרא לעשרה ממשרתיו, נתן לכל אחד מהם מטבע זהב ואמר: 'השקיעו את הכסף וסחרו בו עד שאחזור.' 14 רבים מבני ארצו של המלך המיועד שנאו אותו, ואף שלחו בעקבותיו משלחת שהודיעה לו: 'איננו רוצים שתמלוך עלינו!"
15 "מחאתם לא הועילה, והאציל הוכתר למלך. כשחזר המלך לביתו קרא אליו את עשרת המשרתים, ושאל אותם מה עשו בכסף שנתן להם וכמה הרוויחו. 16 "המשרת הראשון בא ואמר: 'אדוני, ממטבע הזהב שנתת לי הרווחתי עשרה מטבעות זהב.'
17 "'יפה מאוד, משרתי הטוב!' שיבח אותו המלך. 'מאחר שהוכחת את נאמנותך במעט שהפקדתי בידך, אני ממנה אותך שליט על עשר ערים.'
18 "גם המשרת השני דיווח על רווח, פי חמישה ממה שקיבל.
19 "'אותך אני ממנה שליט על חמש ערים,' אמר לו המלך. 20 "אחר כך בא המשרת השלישי ואמר: 'אדוני, הנה המטבע שנתת לי; שמרתי אותו במטפחת ולא נגעתי בו. 21 כי פחדתי ממך, מפני שאתה איש קשה; אתה לוקח מה שלא שייך לך וקוצר את מה שלא זרעת.'
22 "'רשע שכמוך!' קרא המלך בזעם. 'איש קשה אני? מיד אראה לך כמה קשה אני יכול להיות! אם ידעת שאני לוקח מה שלא שייך לי וקוצר את מה שלא זרעתי, 23 מדוע לא הפקדת את הכסף בבנק? כך לפחות הייתי מקבל ריבית!'
24 "המלך פנה אל העומדים סביבו ופקד: 'קחו ממנו את המטבע ותנו לאיש שהרוויח את הסכום הגדול ביותר!'
25 "'אבל, אדון,' אמרו במחאה, 'יש לו מספיק!' 26 "'נכון,' השיב המלך. 'אני אומר לכם, מי שיש לו – יקבל עוד; מי שאין לו – גם המעט שבידו יילקח ממנו. 27 ובנוגע לאויבי אשר לא רצו שאמלוך עליהם – הביאו אותם הנה והוציאו אותם להורג לפני.
28 ישוע סיים את דבריו והמשיך בדרכו לעלות לירושלים יחד עם תלמידיו. 29 בהתקרבם אל בית-פגי ובית-עניה שעל הר הזיתים, קרא אליו ישוע שנים מתלמידיו ואמר: 30 "לכו אל הכפר ממול; בכניסה תראו עיר קשור שאיש עדיין לא רכב עליו. התירו את העיר והביאו אותו אלי. 31 אם מישהו ישאל אתכם מה אתם עושים, אמרו לו: 'האדון זקוק לעיר.'"
32 שני התלמידים הלכו אל הכפר ומצאו את העיר ממש כפי שאמר להם ישוע. 33 כשהתירו את העיר בא אליהם בעליו ושאל בתימהון: "מדוע אתם מתירים את העיר שלי?"
34 "האדון זקוק לו," השיבו התלמידים בפשטות.
35 הם הביאו את העיר אל ישוע, ריפדו את גבו במעיליהם וישוע רכב עליו. 36 אנשים רבים פרשו את מעיליהם וגלימותיהם על השביל לפניו. 37 כשהתקרב ישוע לראש השביל היורד מהר הזיתים, החלה חבורת תלמידיו לשיר ולשבח את אלוהים בקולי קולות על כל הנסים והנפלאות שחולל ישוע.
38 "ברוך הבא בשם ה'!" צהל ההמון. "יחי המלך! שמחו השמים והארץ! שבח ותהילה לאלוהים במרומים!"
39 פרושים אחדים שהיו בקרב הקהל אמרו לישוע: "רבי, נזוף בתלמידיך על הדברים שהם אומרים!"
40 אך הוא השיב להם: "אם הם ישתקו האבנים האלה תזעקנה!"
41 כאשר התקרב ישוע לירושלים, הביט בה בעצב ובכה עליה. 42 "הלוואי שידעת גם את כיצד לעשות שלום! אולם הדבר נסתר ממך," אמר ישוע בצער ובדמעות. 43 "יבוא היום שאויביך יקימו סוללות חול סביב חומותיך, יקיפו אותך ויצורו עליך מכל עבר. 44 אויביך יהרסו כליל אותך ואת בניך; הם לא ישאירו אבן אחת במקומה, משום שדחית את הישועה שהציע לך ה'."
45 לאחר מכן הוא נכנס אל בית-המקדש והחל לגרש משם את הסוחרים ואת הקונים. 46 " בכתבי-הקודש כתוב[a]: 'ביתי בית תפילה,'" קרא ישוע, "אבל אתם הפכתם את בית ה' למאורת גנבים!"
47 ישוע לימד יום-יום בבית-המקדש. הסופרים, ראשי הכוהנים והזקנים חיפשו דרך להיפטר ממנו, 48 אך הם לא ידעו מה לעשות, מפני שכל העם אהב אותו והקשיב לדבריו בתשומת לב מרובה.
כ באחד מאותם ימים, כשלימד ישוע את העם בבית-המקדש וסיפר לו את בשורת ה', ניגשו אליו הכוהנים, הסופרים והזקנים ושאלו: 2 "באיזו רשות אתה עושה את כל הדברים האלה?"
3 "אענה לשאלתם בתנאי שתענו לשאלתי," השיב להם ישוע. 4 "האם יוחנן המטביל נשלח על-ידי אלוהים או על-ידי בני-אדם?"
5 הם התייעצו ביניהם: "אם נגיד שאלוהים שלח את יוחנן, ישוע ישאל אותנו מדוע לא האמנו בו. 6 אבל אם נגיד שאלוהים לא שלח את יוחנן, העם יתנפל עלינו, כי כולם מאמינים שיוחנן היה נביא מאת אלוהים." 7 לבסוף השיבו לישוע: "איננו יכולים להשיב לשאלתך, מפני שאיננו יודעים את התשובה." 8 "אם כן, גם אני לא אשיב לשאלתכם," אמר ישוע.
9 ישוע פנה אל העם וסיפר להם את המשל הבא: "איש אחד נטע כרם ענבים, השכיר אותו לכורמים זרים ונסע לארץ רחוקה לכמה שנים. 10 בהגיע מועד הבציר שלח בעל הכרם אחד מאנשיו לאסוף את חלקו ביבול הענבים. אבל הכורמים הכו את השליח ושלחו אותו חזרה לאדוניו בידיים ריקות. 11 בעל הכרם שלח שליח אחר, אולם גורלו היה כגורל קודמו; הכורמים הכו אותו, קיללו אותו ושלחוהו בידיים ריקות. 12 בעל הכרם שלח אדם שלישי, אבל גם אותו הם פצעו וגירשו משם.
13 "מה אעשה?" שאל את עצמו בעל הכרם. 'אולי אם אשלח את בני האהוב הם יפחדו מפניו ויכבדו אותו.' 14 "אולם כשראו הכורמים את הבן אמרו: 'יש לנו כאן הזדמנות: הבן הזה יירש את הכרם לאחר מות אביו, אולם אם נהרוג אותו נזכה אנחנו בכרם!' 15 והכורמים גירשו את הבן מהכרם והרגו אותו.
"מה לדעתכם יעשה בעל הכרם? 16 אני אומר לכם, הוא יבוא בעצמו, יהרוג את הכורמים וישכיר את הכרם לאחרים."
"חס וחלילה שיעשו כך האנשים!" קראו השומעים.
17 ישוע נעץ בהם מבטו ואמר: "מה לדעתכם כוונת הפסוק בתהילים[b]: 'אבן מאסו הבונים, הייתה לראש פינה'? האבן שהבונים זלזלו בה וזרקו אותה נעשתה לאבן החשובה ביותר בכל הבניין." 18 ישוע הוסיף: "מי שייפול על האבן הזאת יתנפץ לרסיסים, ומי שתיפול עליו האבן ישחק לאבק."
19 הסופרים וראשי הכוהנים הבינו שהם הכורמים הרשעים במשל ורצו לאסור את ישוע, אבל הם פחדו שמא העם יחולל מהומות.
20 הסופרים וראשי הכוהנים ציפו להזדמנות מתאימה לאסור את ישוע ולמסור אותו לידי השלטונות. יום אחד שלחו אליו מרגלים בדמות אנשים תמימים, כדי שינסו להכשילו בלשונו.
21 "רבי," פתחו מרגלים אלה, "אנחנו יודעים שאתה איש ישר, ושאיש אינו יכול להשפיע עליך לשקר. אנחנו גם יודעים שאתה באמת מלמד את דבר-אלוהים.
