Parables on Prayer
18 Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they (A)ought to pray and not to (B)lose heart, 2 saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not (C)respect man. 3 There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘[a]Give me legal protection from my opponent.’ 4 For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor (D)respect man, 5 yet (E)because this widow bothers me, I will [b]give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will [c](F)wear me out.’” 6 And (G)the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge *said; 7 now, will not God (H)bring about justice for His (I)elect who cry to Him day and night, [d]and will He (J)delay long over them? 8 I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, (K)will He find [e]faith on the earth?”
The Pharisee and the Publican
9 And He also told this parable to some people who (L)trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and (M)viewed others with contempt: 10 “Two men (N)went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee (O)stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I (P)fast twice a week; I (Q)pay tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, (R)standing some distance away, (S)was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but (T)was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be [f]merciful to me, the sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; (U)for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
15 (V)And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them. 16 But Jesus called for them, saying, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I say to you, (W)whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”
The Rich Young Ruler
18 (X)A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments, ‘(Y)Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” 21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.” 22 When Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; (Z)sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have (AA)treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 23 But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. 24 And Jesus looked at him and said, “(AB)How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God! 25 For (AC)it is easier for a camel to [g]go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 They who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” 27 But He said, “(AD)The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.”
28 Peter said, “Behold, (AE)we have left [h]our own homes and followed You.” 29 And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, (AF)there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who will not receive many times as much at this time and in (AG)the age to come, eternal life.”
31 (AH)Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, (AI)we are going up to Jerusalem, and (AJ)all things which are written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished. 32 (AK)For He will be [i]handed over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and mistreated and spit upon, 33 and after they have scourged Him, they will kill Him; and the third day He will rise again.” 34 But (AL)the disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.
Bartimaeus Receives Sight
35 (AM)As [j](AN)Jesus was approaching Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging. 36 Now hearing a crowd going by, he began to inquire what this was. 37 They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 And he called out, saying, “Jesus, (AO)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 Those who led the way were sternly telling him to be quiet; but he kept crying out all the more, “(AP)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him; and when he came near, He questioned him, 41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, I want to regain my sight!” 42 And Jesus said to him, “[k]Receive your sight; (AQ)your faith has [l]made you well.” 43 Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him, (AR)glorifying God; and when (AS)all the people saw it, they gave praise to God.

18 ¶ Y les dijo también una parábola sobre que es necesario orar siempre, y no desmayar,
2 diciendo: Había un juez en una ciudad, el cual ni temía a Dios, ni respetaba a hombre.
3 Había también en aquella ciudad una viuda, la cual venía a él diciendo: Defiéndeme de mi adversario.
4 Pero él no quiso por algún tiempo; pero después de esto dijo dentro de sí: Aunque ni temo a Dios, ni tengo respeto a hombre,
5 todavía, porque esta viuda me es molesta, le haré justicia, porque al fin no venga y me muela.
6 Y dijo el Señor: Oíd lo que dice el juez injusto.
7 ¿Y Dios no vengará a sus escogidos, que claman a él día y noche, aunque sea longánime acerca de ellos?
8 Os digo que los vengará presto. Pero cuando el Hijo del hombre viniere, ¿hallará fe en la tierra?
9 ¶ Y dijo también a unos que confiaban en sí como justos, y menospreciaban a los otros, esta parábola:
10 Dos hombres subieron al Templo a orar: el uno fariseo, el otro publicano.
11 El fariseo, en pie, oraba consigo de esta manera: Dios, te doy gracias, que no soy como los otros hombres, ladrones, injustos, adúlteros, ni aun como este publicano;
12 ayuno lo de dos comidas cada sábado, doy diezmos de todo lo que poseo.
13 Mas el publicano estando lejos no quería ni aun alzar los ojos al cielo, sino que hería su pecho, diciendo: Dios, reconcíliame, pecador.
14 Os digo que éste descendió a su casa más justificado que el otro; porque cualquiera que se ensalza, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será ensalzado.
15 ¶ Y traían a él los niños para que los tocara; lo cual viendo los discípulos les reñían.
16 Mas Jesús llamándolos, dijo: Dejad a los niños venir a mí, y no lo impidáis; porque de los tales es el Reino de Dios.
17 De cierto os digo, que cualquiera que no recibiere el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él.
18 ¶ Y le preguntó un príncipe, diciendo: Maestro bueno, ¿qué haré para poseer la vida eterna?
19 Y Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Ninguno hay bueno sino sólo Dios.
20 Los mandamientos sabes: No cometerás homicidio; no adulterarás; no hurtarás; no dirás falso testimonio; honra a tu padre y a tu madre.
21 Y él dijo: Todas estas cosas he guardado desde mi juventud.
22 Y Jesús, oído esto, le dijo: Aún te falta una cosa: vende todo lo que tienes, y dalo a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, sígueme.
23 Entonces él, oídas estas cosas, se puso muy triste, porque era muy rico.
24 Y viendo Jesús que se había entristecido mucho, dijo: ¡Cuán dificultosamente entrarán en el Reino de Dios los que tienen riquezas!
25 Porque más fácil cosa es entrar un cable por el ojo de una aguja, que un rico entrar al Reino de Dios.
26 Y los que le oían, dijeron: ¿Y quién podrá ser salvo?
27 Y él les dijo: Lo que es imposible para con los hombres, posible es para Dios.
28 Entonces Pedro dijo: He aquí, nosotros hemos dejado todas las cosas, y te hemos seguido.
29 Y él les dijo: De cierto os digo, que no hay nadie que haya dejado casa, o padres, o hermanos, o mujer, o hijos, por el Reino de Dios,
30 que no haya de recibir mucho más en este tiempo, y en el siglo venidero la vida eterna.
31 ¶ Y Jesús, tomando aparte a los doce, les dijo: He aquí subimos a Jerusalén, y serán cumplidas todas las cosas que fueron escritas por los profetas, del Hijo del hombre.
32 Porque será entregado a los gentiles, y será escarnecido, e injuriado, y escupido.
33 Y después que le hubieren azotado, le matarán; mas al tercer día resucitará.
34 Pero ellos nada de estas cosas entendían, y esta palabra les era encubierta, y no sabían lo que decía.
35 ¶ Y aconteció que acercándose él a Jericó, un ciego estaba sentado junto al camino mendigando;
36 el cual cuando oyó la multitud que pasaba, preguntó qué era aquello.
37 Y le dijeron que pasaba Jesús Nazareno.
38 Entonces dio voces, diciendo: Jesús, Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.
39 Y los que iban delante, le reñían que callara; mas él clamaba mucho más: Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.
40 Jesús entonces parándose, mandó traerle a sí; y cuando él llegó, le preguntó,
41 diciendo: ¿Qué quieres que te haga? Y él dijo: Señor, que vea.
42 Y Jesús le dijo: Ve, tu fe te ha hecho salvo.
43 Y luego vio, y le seguía, glorificando a Dios; y todo el pueblo como lo vio, dio a Dios alabanza.
