²⁶ Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, ^(A)“I will not let you go unless you bless me.” ²⁷ And he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.” ²⁸ Then he said, ^(B)“Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,^[a] for ^(C)you have striven with God and ^(D)with men, and have prevailed.”

Let the Children Come to Me

^15 (A)Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they ^(B)rebuked them.

⁸ I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything ^(A)because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence^[a] he will rise and give him whatever he needs. ⁹ And I tell you, ^(B)ask, and ^(C)it will be given to you; ^(D)seek, and you will find; ^(E)knock, and it will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

⁴⁰ And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? ^41 (A)Watch and ^(B)pray that you ^(C)may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” ⁴² Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, ^(D)your will be done.” ⁴³ And again he came and found them sleeping, for ^(E)their eyes were heavy. ⁴⁴ So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for ^(F)the third time, saying the same words again.

^8 (A)Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

^39 (A)And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”

³⁸ And he cried out, “Jesus, ^(A)Son of David, have mercy on me!”
