¹³ And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

⁶ And I said: “O my God, I am too ^(A)ashamed and humiliated to lift up my face to You, my God; for ^(B)our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has ^(C)grown up to the heavens.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we ^(A)confess our sins, He is ^(B)faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to ^(C)cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we ^(D)make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

^15 (A)This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that ^(B)Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

⁴⁸ And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned.

^16 (A)Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

⁸ But ^(A)God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

³⁷ Now when they heard this, ^(A)they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

¹² For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, ^(A)and their sins ^[a]and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
