22 Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man,(A) but you will not see it.(B) 23 People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them.(C) 24 For the Son of Man in his day[a] will be like the lightning,(D) which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. 25 But first he must suffer many things(E) and be rejected(F) by this generation.(G)

26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah,(H) so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

28 “It was the same in the days of Lot.(I) People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

30 “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.(J) 31 On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.(K) 32 Remember Lot’s wife!(L) 33 Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.(M) 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.”(N) [36] [b]

37 “Where, Lord?” they asked.

He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.”(O)

22 Then Jesus[a] told the disciples, “The time will come during which you will long to see one of these days when the Son of Man is with you,[b] but you won’t see it. 23 People[c] will say to you, ‘Look! There he is!’ or ‘Look! Here he is!’ But don’t go and chase after him. 24 Because just as lightning flashes and shines from one end of the sky to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his time.[d] 25 But first he must suffer a great deal and be rejected by those living today.[e]

26 “Just as it was in Noah’s time, so it will be in the Son of Man’s time. 27 People[f] were eating, drinking, marrying, and being given in marriage right up to the day when Noah went into the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed all of them. 28 So it was in Lot’s time. People[g] were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But on the very day when Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed all of them. 30 The day when the Son of Man is revealed will be like that.

31 “The person who is on the housetop that day must not come down to get his belongings out of his house. The person in the field, too, must not turn back to what’s left behind. 32 Remember Lot’s wife! 33 Whoever tries to save his life[h] will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, two will be seated on the same couch[i] that night. The one will be taken, and the other will be left behind. 35 Two women will be grinding grain[j] together. The one will be taken, and the other will be left behind.”[k]

37 Then they asked him, “Where, Lord, will this take place?”[l]

He told them, “Wherever there’s a corpse, that’s where the vultures[m] will gather.”
