³³ Those who try to make their life secure will lose it, but those who lose their life will keep it.

³⁵ For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel,^[a] will save it.^{(A) 36} For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? ³⁷ Indeed, what can they give in return for their life?

²⁵ Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.^(A)

³⁹ Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.^(A)

²⁴ For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.^{(A) 25} For what does it profit them if they gain the whole world but lose or forfeit themselves?^(B)

²⁵ For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Beware, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.^(A)
