²⁹ but on ^(A)the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.

⁶ and turning the cities of ^(A)Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;

⁸ And their dead bodies will lie in the street of ^(A)the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, ^(B)where also ^[a]our Lord was crucified.

⁷ as ^(A)Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the ^[a]vengeance of eternal fire.

²³ And you, Capernaum, ^(A)who^[a] are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ²⁴ But I say to you ^(B)that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”

²³ ‘The whole land is brimstone, ^(A)salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, ^(B)like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’ ²⁴ All nations would say, ^(C)‘Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?’ ²⁵ Then people would say: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt;
