²² And he said to the disciples, ^(A)“The days are coming when you will desire ^(B)to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.

^35 (A)The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and ^(B)then they will fast in those days.”

¹⁵ And Jesus said to them, ^(A)“Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? ^(B)The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and ^(C)then they will fast.

Your Sorrow Will Turn into Joy

^16 (A)“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and ^(B)again a little while, and you will see me.” ¹⁷ So ^(C)some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ^(D)‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ^(E)‘because I am going to the Father’?” ¹⁸ So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? ^(F)We do not know what he is talking about.” ^19 (G)Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? ²⁰ Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(H)you will weep and lament, but ^(I)the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but ^(J)your sorrow will turn into joy. ^21 (K)When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. ^22 (L)So also you have sorrow now, but ^(M)I will see you again, and ^(N)your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

⁵ But now ^(A)I am going to him who sent me, and ^(B)none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ ⁶ But because I have said these things to you, ^(C)sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷ Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for ^(D)if I do not go away, ^(E)the Helper will not come to you. But ^(F)if ^(G)I go, ^(H)I will send him to you.

³³ Little children, ^(A)yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just ^(B)as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’

²¹ So he said to them again, ^(A)“I am going away, and ^(B)you will seek me, and ^(C)you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.” ²² So the Jews said, ^(D)“Will he kill himself, since he says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?” ²³ He said to them, ^(E)“You are from below; I am from above. ^(F)You are of this world; ^(G)I am not of this world. ²⁴ I told you that you ^(H)would die in your sins, for ^(I)unless you believe that ^(J)I am he you will die in your sins.”

³³ Jesus then said, ^(A)“I will be with you a little longer, and then ^(B)I am going to him who sent me. ^34 (C)You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” ³⁵ The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? ^(D)Does he intend to go to ^(E)the Dispersion among ^(F)the Greeks and teach the Greeks? ³⁶ What does he mean by saying, ^(G)‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”

^20 (A)The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and ^(B)then they will fast in that day.
