17 And he said to his disciples, ^(A)“Temptations to sin^[a] are ^(B)sure to come, but ^(C)woe to the one through whom they come!

Temptations to Sin

⁷ “Woe to the world for ^(A)temptations to sin!^{[a] (B)}For it is necessary that temptations come, ^(C)but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes!

¹⁹ for ^(A)there must be factions among you in order ^(B)that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.

Do Not Cause Another to Stumble

^13 (A)Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide ^(B)never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

Final Instructions and Greetings

¹⁷ I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles ^(A)contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; ^(B)avoid them.

¹³ Therefore, ^(A)if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

^20 (A)Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. ^(B)Everything is indeed clean, but ^(C)it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats. ^21 (D)It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.^[a]

²³ But he turned and said to Peter, ^(A)“Get behind me, Satan! You are ^(B)a hindrance^[a] to me. For you ^(C)are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
